North Carolina Prospect ID: Middle Infielder Analysis

PBR opened its summer evaluations with an open prospect event at the beautiful Ultimate Performance complex in Matthews, NC on Thursday May 23rd. Close to 40 players took part in the open pro-style workout with PBR scouts on hand to evaluate players and record their stats while going through the workout.
The event featured players as part of the open North Carolina Prospect ID and the PBR Scout Day with Ultimate Performance. Today we break down the middle infielders that attended the workout.

NC Prospect ID: Middle Infielder Analysis
Each infielder went through a full workout, being evaluated both offensively and defensively. In the facility they were able to work through batted ground balls, throwing across an infield for our scouts. Offensively, an exit velocity was measured off the tee and a live BP session was evaluated.
Joseph Anastasio 3B / RHP / William Amos Hough, NC / 20225 foot 10, 160-pound frame with room to add strength. Balanced setup from the right side, sitting into his legs. Short stride during his load with a small hand pump. Hands work through the swing, but the bat path can be inconsistent at times. Barrel can get in and out of the zone to quickly, working mostly middle to his pull side. Exit velocity recorded at 74 mph. Active feet on the infield, that can get heavy at times. Some stiffness through catch with a long arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot. Some accuracy to his throws topping at 75 mph. Recorded a 4.25 in the 30-yard dash. |
Jordan Bryant SS / 2B / Lumberton , NC / 20225 foot 10, 125-pound lanky, athletic build. Stood out during the defensive portion of the workout. Quick, fluid feet with above average hands with some rhythm through catch. Funnels to the midsection after catch with a quick exchange and short arm action, throwing from an over the top slot. Positional velocity peaked at 74 mph. Sets up balanced from the right side with his weight and hands working back during his load. Smooth, fluid stroke with his barrel working level through the zone. Gap to gap approach with average bat speed. Exit velocity recorded at 84 mph. Recorded a 4.15 in the 30-yard dash. |
Eli Kitchens SS / 3B / West Iredell, NC / 20206 foot 2, 172-pound strong, athletic build. Hits from the right side using a tall setup with more weight on his back leg. Medium length stride with his hands working back during the load. Some strength in the swing, working mostly middle to his pull side. Works to stay through the ball with average feel for the barrel. Better than average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 81 mph. Plays through balls on the infield with active feet and average hands. Catches the ball deep at times, funnels to the belt after catch with clean exchanges, a long arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot. Arm topped at 77 mph across the diamond. Recorded a 4.14 in the 30-yard dash. |
John Newton OF / 3B / Cuthbertson , NC / 2021Rankings StateRank: 55 / POS: 9
6 foot, 174-pound strong, athletic build. Impressed throughout the day, putting up strong numbers across the board. Hits from the right side using a balanced setup, sitting in his legs. Simple load with his weight and hands working slightly back. Short bat path to the ball and keeps his barrel in the zone. Strength in the swing working mostly middle to his pull side. Drove the ball during his front toss rounds, finding a lot of barrels. Above average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 96 mph. Athletically plays through balls in the outfield with quick, fluid feet and average hands. Loose, quick arm with carry to his throws that topped at 91 mph. Athletic on the infield with fluid feet and average hands. Funnels to the midsection after catch with clean transfers. Arm has carry to first base topping at 88 mph. Recorded a 3.91 in the 30-yard dash. |
Andres Quiles-Crespo SS / 2B / Grays Creek, NC / 20215 foot 8, 145-pound athletic build. Sets up balanced from the left side of the plate. Weight and hands work back with a knee to knee load in the lower half. Quick hands with his barrel working level through the zone. Looks to stay in the middle of the field with average bat speed. Exit velocity recorded at 86 mph. Fluid actions defensively with rhythm to his feet and hands. Soft hands funneling to the midsection after catch with a quick transfer. Short arm action with the ability to use different arm slots. Accurate arm that topped at 77 mph. Recorded a 3.91 in the 30-yard dash. |
Tyler Shytle 2B / SS / Oak Grove, NC / 20225 foot 9, 135-pound average frame with room to add strength. Balanced setup from the right side of the plate with a strong base. Uses a short stride during his load with his weight working back and his hands getting ready to attack the ball. Looks to drive the ball middle to his pull side with his barrel working level through the zone and some feel for his barrel. Exit velocity recorded at 81 mph and should improve with added strength. Uses a bigger hop for his pre pitch setup and athletically plays through the ball. Good rhythm with above average hands. Funnels to the midsection after catch with clean, quick transfers. Arm has some quickness to it with his throws topping at 79 mph. Recorded a 4.31 in the 30-yard dash. |
Judd Utermark SS / 3B / Charlotte Christian, NC / 20226 foot 3, 200-pound athletic build. Put together a solid overall day and stood out offensively and defensively. Hits from the right side of the plate, sitting in his legs with slightly more weigh on his back leg. Smooth load with a short stride. Loose hands with barrel whip through the zone. Keeps his barrel in the zone with strength in his swing. Hit a lot of line drives during his front toss rounds driving the ball gap to gap. Above average bat speed with his exit velocity topping at 93 mph. Athletically plays through balls on the infield with good rhythm to the feet and hands. Above average hands, funneling to the belt after catch. Positional velocity peaked at 84 mph. Recorded a 4.06 in the 30-yard dash. |
Brandon Winrow SS / 2B / Northern Guiliford, NC / 20206 foot, 170-pound build with a strong lower half. Left hand hitter who uses a balanced setup. Loads knee to knee in his lower half with some barrel waggle. Short bat path to the ball with some quickness to his hands. Gap to gap approach with his barrel working level through the zone. Exit velocity recorded at 83 mph. Athletically plays through balls on the infield with active feet and average hands. Funnels to the midsection after catch with a long arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot. Positional velocity topped at 71 mph. Recorded a 4.14 in the 30-yard dash. |
