ONSL - Week 4 Recap

Brandon Hall
Executive Director of Scouting, PBR NC

Throughout the summer of 2020 many players across North Carolina did not play their expected schedule.   This is on the back of a spring season that was cancelled very early on for high school players.  As August rolled around, it became clear that individual sessions through high school teams, and the fall season, would continue to be impacted by COVID-19.  These issues brought some solutions as the sport of baseball, and the people involved, continued to work to impact the growth of young players.

The Old North State League was one group that stepped up to see if it could help players.  Coming off a successful 1st summer of their Collegiate League, the ONSL setup a high school fall league.  The leagues features players representing teams from area high schools, for the most part.  The league is meant to be a developmental platform, giving players reps Mondays through Thursday beginning in September and running through mid-August.

ONSL Futures – 1                  Hillsborough Wolves – 9

The Hillsborough Wolves scored early and often, setting a tone right out of the gate, on their way to a 9-1 win over the ONSL Futures.  Will Berger (RHP, Cedar Ridge HS, 2022) worked three innings striking out 5 with Hunter Shingleton (LHP, Cedar Ridge HS, 2021) punching 4 in his two innings.  Offensively the Wolves were led by Aidan McAlllister (3B, Cedar Ridge HS, 2023) with a triple included in his 2 hits, scoring 2 runs, and knocking in 2 runs.

In the 1st, McAllister tripled with 2 on, and 1 run already in to put the Wolves up 3-0.  McAllister would score on an RBI ground out.

Up 5-0 in the 3rd, the Wolves would put the game away.  Aided by multiple errors and aggressive base running, the Wolves would plate two more runs, pushing the lead to 7-0.
