Quick Hitters: Arsenal Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Executive Director, PBR of NC

Wednesday July 22nd saw PBR on site at JP Riddle Stadium to host a Scout Day with Arsenal Baseball.  The organization had close to 50 players in attendance, ranging from 2021 - 2024 graduates.

A PBR Scout Day consists of a full pro-style workout for position players with pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen.  The position players run a laser timed 60 followed by a full offensive workout and defensive workout.  The pitchers controlled bullpen has arms throwing each of their pitches with TrackMan and a radar gun tracking velocity, spin rate, and other metrics.

Quick Hitters

Pierce Bouwman (2023, RHP, Southern Lee HS) – Raw with some room to his ceiling.  Long arm swing and over-the-top slot create ride through the zone on the FB.  Good angle when down.  Advanced feel and sink on the change-up.

Cooper Clark (2023, RHP, Wake Cty Home School) – Medium arm swing and high-3/4 slot.  Fastball up to 83.  Intriguing looseness that could develop as he matures.  Good feel for CB and CH.  Change-up has hard arm side run.

Jarrett Crabtree (2023, RHP, Grace Christian) – Long, loose arm swing to an exaggerated over-the-top slot creating cut on the fastball and change-up at times.  Good angle when down in the zone.  High waisted and a chance to grow with strength being added to the frame.

Brandon Crabtree (2023, RHP, Grace Christian) – Athletic.  Lanky.  Quick arm with arm strength.  Strike thrower.  Chance for the fastball to grow significantly in the coming years.

Daniel Eagen (2021, RHP, Fuquay-Varina HS) – Easy, quick arm.  Fastball peaked at 88.  Tight, late breaking ball.  Lanky 6-foot-4 frame.  Just lacking some reps to make a big jump in his trust in how good the stuff could be.

Cole Harding (2021, RHP, North Raleigh Christian) – 6-foot-3 frame.  Quick arm with arm strength.  Fastball up to 91.  Hard, late, tight slider with depth and length.  Potentially the top breaking ball grade received by any NC arm this year.  Flashed an ability to locate the breaking ball in the zone and for chase down and away.  Fastball has control of the zone, but lacks the command shown with the breaking ball in the short bullpen.

Jake Overton (2023, RHP, Home School) – Fastball only after throwing a short outing the day prior.  Up to 84.  Athletic arm with good arm speed.

RJ Sales (2021, RHP, Pinecrest HS) – Committed to UNCW shortly after the scout day.  Fastball peaked at 95 on the stalker, but officially at 93.3 on TrackMan.  Big arm with good angle through the zone.  Easy.  Creates hard, late run to the arm side.  Slider over the curveball right now, but each is thrown with arm speed.  Will be a pro follow entering the spring of 2021.

Joseph Taylor (2023, RHP, Apex Friendship HS) – Quick arm with multiple slots.  Average feel in each slot.  Up to 85.  Drop down side slot peaked at 76.  Downer breaking ball from the higher slot has some depth.
