Quick Hitters: Top Prospect Games 2024 Pitchers

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

PBR of North Carolina hosted its Top Prospect Games on August 2nd at Campbell University. The event featured players from across the state in the 2024-2026 grad classes. The Top Prospect Games continues to be one of the most popular summer events on the PBR summer schedule with several college coaches in attendance taking a look at the prospects in attendance.

The day started with position players taking batting practice on the field with Trackman collecting ball flight data. After BP position players went through a defensive evaluation that began with the outfielders followed by the catchers and infielders. When players finished their defensive workout they ran a laser timed 60 using Swift Technology. In the afternoon players were split into 6 teams with each team playing 2 controlled games with Trackman gathering information on each pitcher that threw in the game.

Below we begin our breakdown of the players in attendance looking at the top performers in select categories.

Quick Hitters - 2024 Pitchers

Riley Treadaway, RHP, DH Conley HS, 2024
Average build with strength in the lower half, standing 5-foot-10, 180 pounds. Distinctive 3 pitch mix with an ability to attack hitters in a several different ways.  Change-up is advanced. Thrown with arm speed it has late, sharp sink, allowing the fastball play up vs. it read velocity.  Late tilt on a slider that mimics the fastball window, spinning up to 2340rpm.  Fastball peaked at 87.5, 2040rpm with run over ride and 1:30 spin tilt at release.

Jack Hedrick, RHP, Charlotte Catholic, 2024
Tall, athletic presence with broad shoulders at 6-foot-5, 200 pounds. Physical presence on the bump. Works level and on-line. Working to repeat but not quite there on every pitch… yet.  Fastball ranged 89.4 - 90.6 with an average spin rate of 1808rpm. Some ride through the zone with some run.  12:45 spin tilt at release. Flashed a tight, late breaking ball with 11/5 tilt at 73-74. Inconsistent tilt and break but the makings of an out pitch were shown.

Seth Sharpe, RHP, Morehead HS, 2024
Average frame at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds. Interesting ability to spin the baseball with the fastball peaking at 2382rpm and the breaking ball peaking at 2375rpm.  True back spin on the fastball with a 12:00 spin tilt at release.  Fastball played 84-86 with average ride, working true out of the hand.  Occasionally cut the fastball when working to the glove side.  Heavy sweep on the breaking ball created issues for hitters.  Athletic arm worked to a high-¾ release with quickness.

Dalen Boykin, RHP, Rolesville HS, 2024
Broad shoulders and strength in the lower half.  Stands 6-foot-1, 210 pounds. Good feel for the fastball working to both sides of the plate and showing an ability to elevate. Fastball peaked at 87.2, 2178rpm.  Solid ride and run with a 1:00 spin tilt at release. Breaking ball rolled through a 10/4 arc at 71-75, 2453rpm. Big horizontal break on the curveball at times.  Strong arm with average to above arm speed. Medium arm swing works through an over-the-top slot.

Garrett Arnold, RHP, Fuquay-Varina HS, 2024
Big frame and physical appearance over the rubber at 6-foot-2, 230 pounds. Coils around the back hip as the arm plunges out of the glove working through a long arm swing to an over-the-top slot.  Better than average arm speed. Fastball ranged 82-84, 2097rpm.  Some ride and run. Occasional sink when working to the arm side. Breaking ball at 70-73, 1784rpm with sweeping action out of the hand.
