Rawlilngs Prospects Scout Day Analysis: Outfielders

On Tuesday August 6th, PBR hosted the Rawlings Prospects for the 3rd straight year, in their PBR Scout Day. Players in the Rawlings Prospects program were able to go through a full pro-style workout with PBR gathering information and video on each player. Players ran a laser timed 60, worked out at their defensive position, and took multiple rounds of live BP. Pitchers were able to throw controlled bullpens.
The individual player analysis begins with the outfielders in attendance. Five primary outfielders went through the pro-style workout, posting numbers in the 60, positional throws, and exit velocity. Inside the evaluations, each player is broken down and projected out into their future. Links to individual player videos are in the player names below.

Matt Kelley OF / RHP / Corinth Holders, NC / 2020Rankings StateRank: 90 / POS: 13
UNC Pembroke commit. Committed shortly after the scout day. Athletic at 6 foot, 175-pounds. Speed and quickness present running a 6.65 60. Relaxed, upright setup from the right side of the plate. Short stride with his hands working back, creating some bat angle over his head. Barrel works short to the ball with a gap to gap approach. Above average barrel awareness with some quickness to his hands. Average to above average bat speed with his exit velocity recorded at 93 mph. Athletic in the outfield with relaxed hands. Plays fluid through balls with a long arm action, throwing from an over the top slot. Arm has carry and is accurate topping at 89 mph. |
Tanner Martin OF / 1B / Combine Academy, NC / 2021Rankings StateRank: 43 / POS: 6
Physical presence at 6 foot 4, 185-pounds. Balanced setup from the right side with a strong base. Small leg kick during his load with a short stride and his barrel staying over his back shoulder. Quick hands with a short bat path to the ball. Uses the whole field with average feel for his barrel. Above average bat speed and can drive the ball to his pull side. Exit velocity recorded at 92 mph. Works to balls in the outfield catching the ball off his left foot. Clean exchanges with a long arm actin, throwing from an over the top slot. Accurate arm that topped at 78 mph from the outfield. Recorded a 6.94 in the 60. |
Carrington Williams OF / LHP / Jordan, NC / 2021Rankings StateRank: 142 / POS: 23
5 foot 6, 160-pound strong build. Hits from the left side with an open setup with his hands above his back shoulder. Leg kick during his load, getting back to even with his hands working back. Barrel works level through the zone. Pull tendency hitting some line drives to right field. Exit velocity recorded at 87 mph. Plays through balls in the outfield with average hands. Clean, longer exchange with a long arm swing throwing from an over the top slot. Accurate arm that topped at 79 mph. Recorded a 7.39 in the 60. |
Dawson Creech OF / RHP / East Wake, NC / 20206 foot 1, 165-pound average build. Slightly open setup from the right side of the plate with a narrow base. Short stride getting back to even with some barrel waggle during the load. Some quickness to the hands through the swing. Works mostly middle to his pulls side with a slightly uphill bat path. Some strength to his pull side. Exit velocity recorded at 89 mph. Plays through balls in the outfield with fluid feet and average hands. Gets momentum into his throws with clean exchanges, long arm action, throwing from a high ¾ slot. Some accuracy to his throws that topped at 83 mph. Recorded a 7.03 in the 60. |
Landen Welch OF / SS / Heritage, NC / 2022Thin frame at 6 foot, 150-pounds. Hits from the right side with an open setup, narrow base and bend in the knees. Hands start around his back shoulder with an upright barrel. Average stride getting his feet back to even. Jumps at the ball during his swing creating a longer barrel path. Uses the whole field during batting practice. Exit velocity recorded at 77 mph and should improve with added strength. Plays through balls in the outfield with clean exchanges, medium arm stroke, throwing from a high ¾ slot. Some accuracy to his throws that topped at 69 mph. Recorded a 7.35 in the 60. |
