Scout Blog: Player Notes from Queen City Summer Games

PBR Scouts were out across North Carolina over the weekend of July 19 – 21. One of the areas covered was the Charlotte area where On Deck Academy hosted teams from the 2020 and 2021 age groups in facilities like Jack Hughes Park, Davidson, Wingate, and area high schools. Below are some notes on the players PBR saw played.

On Deck O’s 2020
Austin Raynor, OF, South Caldwell HS, 2020
Physical presence with strength. Stands 6-foot-3, 205 pounds. Muscular definition. Left handed hitter. Athletic presence. Open stance. Tall setup. Slight waggle in the bat head pre-pitch, working to a vertical bat. Small load in the hands with a small stride back to even. Better than average bat speed with hand strength through contact. Lacks some barrel awareness at times as the swing is still maturing. Bat can be steep, in and out of the zone. When on the barrel, the ball jumps off the bat. Good runner. Athletic on the bases.
