Hough    3                          South Mecklenburg    6

On Saturday, South Meck hosted Hough in a non-conference battle.  A back and forth game saw a lot of scoring opportunities presented through free bases, but pitchers on both sides made pitches to keep their team in the game.  In the end, South Meck would close the game strong, scoring in their final 3 at-bats, overcoming a one-run deficit to win 6-3.

The Sabres jumped to a quick 2-0 lead after one inning.  South Meck drew four walks and did not have a hit in the inning.  The Huskies answered in the 3rd in similar fashion, scoring 2 runs on 1 hit and four walks.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the 3rd, South Meck would claim the lead for good.  The inning began with 2 base on balls, each coming around to score.  With no outs, a sacrifice bunt from Thomas Mills moved the runners to 2nd and 3rdTyler Monaco knocked in one run a ground ball.  The second run scored on a Wes Terte single, giving the Sabres a 4-3 lead.

In the fifth, the Sabres added an insurance run.  Thomas Umplett reached via a hit-by-pitch with 2 outs.  Breon Ishmael followed with a double to center, scoring Umphlett.

Seth Taylor entered the game on the mound for the Sabres, with a lead in the ffith.  He worked 2 innings, allowing only 1 hit and 1 walk.   Brendan Bagwell secured the win in the seventh, recording a strikeout as he closed the game.
