Then & Now: Daniel Brown

Brandon Hall & Matt Payne
Executive Director and Director of Scouting, PBR of NC

The spring of 2020 has seen a lot of unprecedented action with the season being cancelled, classes being operated from home, and the MLB Draft reduced to 5 rounds.  A season that was destined to highlight the graduating class and how far they have come, was ended in heart breaking fashion.

In the coming weeks we are going to highlight players from the 2020 class, looking at their development as players.  PBR of North Carolina is in its fourth year of existence and now has history on the graduating class.  Then and Now will work to highlight where players were, where they are, and how they got there.

The tall and lanky lefty caught everyone’s eye in his first PBR event, the 2019 Preseason All-State.  Athleticism and raw tools have been easy to see. The question was always how soon he could put it together and if he would gain enough control heading into 2020 to be a top tier prospect. His loose, quick arm that creates all sorts of angles on the ball creates a tough matchup for hitters. At the 2020 ProCase in early February, Brown excited pro scouts with the progress made in the last calendar year. The fastball was up to 90mph with plenty of life, showing control of a sharp breaking ball and changeup with lots of action.

Then

The first look at the 2019 Preseason All-State had phones buzzing as word got out about the potential Brown possessed.  Below is the writeup from the event, by PBR Scouts:
