Three 90 Arms & More: Myers Park at CLT Christian

Brandon Hall
Executive Director, PBR NC

In PBR’s continuing effort to cover the state of North Carolina like nobody else can, Executive Director of Scouting for NC, Brandon Hall, made his way over to see a preseason scrimmage between Myers Park HS and Charlotte Christian.  Both programs have very talented rosters with high expectations for the 2020 season.  The scrimmage gave the coaches a chance to continue to develop pitch counts while getting hitters live at-bats.

The Mustangs of Myers Park are coming off a very good campaign in 2019 and return a lot of talent in 2020.  The lineup will be led by College of Charleston commit Preston Hall (3B, 2020) as well as uncommitted James Hobbs (SS, 2020), and uncommitted Jack Shaw (OF, 2020).  The lineup is deep and talented and should be able to produce runs in a variety of ways throughout the year.  If the top of the lineup is in sync and gets hot, the Mustangs will have the chance to score at an alarming rate.

On the bump, the development of LHP Crawford Wade (Wake Forest commit, 2020) has the chance to be a difference maker in 2020.  Wade has elevated his stuff to the point where pro scouts will be in to see him this spring.  Behind Wade are a slew of strike throwers with clean deliveries who can spin sliders.  Coach Foor will have depth and options as the Mustangs work to develop a solid core behind Wade.

Crawford Wade, LHP, 2020
Wake Forest commit.  Athletic 6-foot-4, 175 pound frame.  Easy delivery that he repeats.  Strong arm action working to load the scapular, releasing from a high-3/4 slot.  Athletic around the mound as well as throughout his delivery.  The fastball sat at 88-89, touching 90 a couple of times.  The spin rate on the fastball ranged 2100 – 2300.  The breaking ball flashed hard, late bit, creating issues for several good hitters.  Getting both freeze and swing and miss at 71-73 with a 2200 rpm.  Change-up has a chance to be a weapon with late, hard fade and tunneling with the fastball.  Good arm speed and deception, sitting 79-81 with a 1400 rpm spin rate.
