Tim Hunter
VP of Operations

It was a historic preseason here in New York with our boots-on-the-ground scouting staff covering 700+ players at showcase events, all February long. The dust has settled and we are now ramping up our efforts in player rankings, scouting reports, and recap articles. While the outcome of the 2020 HS season is on hold, the Prep Baseball Report (NY) will continue to provide unrivaled coverage for the amateur baseball players in the Empire State.

As we continue our follow up of the Preseason Tour, we will be highlighting "Top Performer Spotlights" on players who recently stood-out at our preseason events. Stay tuned with us for the latest information on the 2020 spring season and beyond.

Scouting Report

Physical: 5-foot-9, 170-pounds. Athletic, strong build.
Run: 7.21 runner in the 60. stays inline.
Hit: RHH. Simple setup, balanced stance, level hands and a small stride towards pitcher, repeatable actions Direct, flat barrel path, slightly uphill finish with one hand.
Power: 92 MPH raw exit velocity. Up the middle approach, low line drives.
Defense:  Fields the ball from the ground up; slightly off center, gets rid of the ball quickly in one motion.
Arm: Short arm swing, low 3/4 arm slot. INF - 73 MPH.

Standout Skill
I think the way Raleigh approaches his defense for me was fun to watch. Stayed low right off the bat, tracked the ball all the way into his glove with his head down, worked ground up, and kept the ball from funneling into his body. Arm strength could always be improved on especially if moving forward with the 3B position. His ability to play on the run and smooth backhand work was fun to watch.
Player Projection
Raleigh has the athletic ability to play multiple positions. Listed as a 2B/3B I believe he has all the tool necessary to even play an OF role if necessary. Infield is he primary position and with his active feet to be able to move laterally, both position are still an option. I like him more as a second baseman, he can cover the holes and make every routine play. His arm strength across the diamond would be my only worry.

Quick Hit
"Nice athleticism and has a strong build to him. Very simple swing, not a whole lot of movement, and a simple small stride out. With that being said, Raleigh packs a punch and has some pop (92mph exit velo) so don't let the simple swing fool you. Defensively he's very fundamental, works low with the baseball and keeps in middle of his body."
