Week 10: Pitcher & Player of the Week

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

Player of the Week nominations are submitted by High School coaches across North Carolina each week.  Along with the nominations, Prep Baseball Report is diving into box scores, talking to coaches and scouts, and attending as many games as possible.

PBR's staff sifts through the information sent in and seen by our scouts to determine the PBR Player of the Week every Tuesday.  You can see a full list of players off to a hot start in Diamond Notes, a collection of notes, stats, and highlights from the past week, published every Wednesday during the season.

This week’s Player and Pitcher of the Week will cover Week 10 of the North Carolina High School season.  Our Pitcher of the Week led his team to their 1st Conference Championship since 1991, firing a 2 hit shutout vs. the team that finished 2nd in the league.  Out hitter of the week helped to keep his club's season alive... needing 2 wins, this player slugged 3 homeruns when down, or tied, in the two game week, ultimately leading to a state playoff birth.

Player of the Week

Isaac Armstrong, SS, East Lincoln HS, 2023
The East Carolina commit kept his HS season alive with a big week that propels East Lincoln into the State Playoffs.  Needing two big wins to secure their birth, the Mustangs found themselves down 4-1 on Tuesday when Armstrong hit a 3 run HR to tie the game in the 4th.  After winning on Tuesday, the Mustangs were down again on Thursday when Armstrong homered to close the gap to 1.  In the 7th, he stepped to the plate in a tie game and homered again, giving East Lincoln the 2nd win they needed on the week.  For the week, Armstrong hit .571 with 3 HR, 3 Runs Scored and 6 RBI.

Pitcher of the Week

Sam Harris, RHP, Broughton HS, 2025
Broughton entered the week with a magic number of 1 to secure their first conference title since 1991.  Playing Athens Drive, the team right behind them in the standings, Harris fired a 2 hit shutout on Tuesday to end the long drought for the Caps.  Over the 7 inning outing, Harris, an NC State commit, struckout 11 and surrendered 2 walks.  The outing pushed Harris' 2023 numbers to 52 innings, striking out 82 with an ERA of 0.42.
