#10 TC Roberson 0 #9 Charlotte Christian 8
Big kudos to Charlotte Christian and TC Roberson, two programs inside the Prep Baseball Power 25 Top 10, and two programs with state title aspirations who are willing to play each other in the regular season. The matchup was fun to watch with prospects all over the field.
Charlotte Christian got to Roberson ace, Micah Simpson (2024, LHP, Western Carolina commit) in the 3rd, their second time through their order. In the top half, Nic Harris induced a 1 out double play with runners on 1st and 3rd to get out of a jam and keep the score at 0-0. The bottom half opened with a Matty Carroll (2027, INF) double. Carroll scored on a Drew Darling single to center. Darling would come around to score on a DJ Layton (SS/RHP, 2024, Southern Miss commit) single to center.
Layton was the star of the Knight's lineup, getting 3 hits, including 2 doubles. Layton also came into the game in a tight situation, working 1.1 innings and striking out 2, while keeping Roberson off the scoreboard.
In the 6th, leading 4-0, Charlotte Christian worked to put the game away. With two outs, Jake McGrath (C/INF, 2026) and Darling drew walks. Logan Davis singled home McGrath. A hit by pitch loaded the bases for Layton who doubled to left field, scoring three, giving Layton his 5th RBI of the game.
With the win, Charlotte Christian moved to 5-4. TC Roberson falls to 6-2.
