2028 Positional Power: Breaking Down the Summer Rankings
The summer evaluation period is complete, and the latest update to the North Carolina Class of 2028 Rankings provides another look at a talented class that continues to develop across the state.
Throughout the spring and summer, the Prep Baseball North Carolina scouting staff followed the 2028 class through high school coverage, tournament play, Prep Baseball events and several of the biggest evaluation opportunities on the calendar. The summer included looks at players through the NC/SC Border Battle, Future Games, Tobacco Road State Games, Summer IDs and tournament coverage across the region.
Those evaluations helped shape the latest rankings update, but the overall board is only one way to look at the class.
Below, we break the updated rankings down position by position, highlighting the top players at each spot based on where they sit within the overall North Carolina rankings.
Prep Baseball does not build separate positional rankings. The overall rankings evaluate players against the entire class, taking into account present tools, athleticism, performance, projection and long-term prospect value. For the lists below, players are separated by their primary position as listed in the rankings and remain in the same order in which they appear on the overall board.
The result gives us another way to examine the depth of the 2028 class as these players move toward their junior seasons.

A Deep Class Continues to Take Shape
Breaking the rankings down by position provides another perspective on the overall strength of North Carolina's 2028 class.
There is established high-end talent throughout the board, but there is also considerable depth still developing behind the top names. With much of the class still uncommitted, the coming months will provide plenty of opportunities for players to continue building their prospect status.
The rankings remain a snapshot in time. Physical development, added strength, increased athleticism, performance and new evaluations will continue to impact the board as the class works toward its junior spring.
