2026 South Atlantic Border Battle: Scout Blog

Prep Baseball's scouting staff was on hand throughout the 2026 South Atlantic Border Battle, getting an extended look at players from across the region during two days of workouts and game action.

The event provided another opportunity to evaluate players in a competitive setting, with position players going through offensive and defensive work as well as participating in two controlled scrimmages. Pitchers worked to live hitters in the scrimmage situations.

Below is a quick look at players from the Prep Baseball scouting staff during the event. These notes are designed to provide a snapshot of what was seen over the two-day look and are not intended to serve as comprehensive scouting reports.

Red Sox — North Carolina 2027

The Red Sox team at the 2026 SABB was made up of predominately North Carolina talent.  Players from VA and MD finished off the roster.  Most of the players are committed and the event gave pro scouts a solid early fall look at how the class of 2027 is continuing to develop.

Position Players

Brandon Bush, OF, Hoggard, 2027
North Carolina. Athletic and toolsy outfielder with multiple physical traits that continue to flash. Bush's athleticism remains a central piece of his profile with upside as his tools continue to translate into game production.

Matty Carroll, INF, Charlotte Christian, 2027
Maryland. Added strength was evident, particularly through the lower half. Carroll moved well laterally on defense and showed a line-drive-oriented offensive approach with solid barrel feel.

Luke Crawford, C, Georgetown Preparatory, 2027 (MD)
Harvard. Physical left-handed hitter with strength in the hands. Crawford showed the ability to impact the baseball to the opposite field, driving a ball to the left-field wall during game action. The barrel plays heavy when he is on time.

Caleb Lynn, OF, Grace Christian School, 2027
UNC Wilmington. Athleticism immediately stands out. Lynn is a fluid mover with quick hands and a quick bat from the left side. His offensive approach is simple and direct with strength at impact. He consistently found himself on time during the weekend, producing hard contact with gap power.

Reggie Marshall III, MIF, Grace Christian, 2027
Louisville. Marshall has added noticeable strength while maintaining his athleticism and defensive movement. The long-framed infielder showed good bend with rhythm in his hands and feet and easy carry across the diamond. From the left side, his bat speed has taken a step forward, producing backspin and carry to the pull side.

Coleton Newbern, C, D.H. Conley, 2027
East Carolina. Two-way talent with strength, quickness and arm talent. Behind the plate, Newbern showed arm strength, solid accuracy and good bend while receiving. Offensively, he worked with good rhythm and barrel feel, creating backspin to the pull side. He also jumped on the mound, working 88-91 mph and showing a changeup with quality run and arm speed.

Antonio Parrino, OF, Wake Forest, 2027
Uncommitted. Athletic left-handed hitting outfielder who put together a solid round of batting practice. Parrino continues to show an athletic look with traits that fit well in the outfield.

Casey Rector, MIF, Tennessee High School, 2027 (VA)
Rutgers. Athletic infielder with good bat speed and barrel feel. Rector showed solid hand strength and drove a ball with authority to the pull side during game action.

Kellen Rogers, MIF, Wake Forest, 2027
NC State. Quick, loose and easy barrel from the left side with the ability to create backspin to all fields. Rogers showed excellent rhythm with his hands and feet defensively and put together quality at-bats throughout the weekend. He was consistently on time early in counts and showed feel for recognizing spin while producing carry into both gaps.

Pitchers

Bryson Apple, RHP, Rockingham, 2027
Coastal Carolina. Long 6-foot-7 frame with plenty of length on the mound. Apple worked primarily at 84-86 mph and reached 88, showing some whip through release while working around the strike zone. His slider ranged from 72-79 mph.

Jude Carter, RHP, Alexander Central, 2027
Alabama. Physical right-hander with broad shoulders, athleticism and good body control. Carter worked 90-93 mph and reached 95. The fastball played with life through the zone, and he showed an aggressive mentality attacking hitters.

Harrison Corey, RHP, D.H. Conley, 2027
North Carolina. Athletic right-hander with loose hips, an explosive arm and plenty of quickness through release. Corey worked 90-93 mph, generating ride and swing-and-miss when elevated. The fastball spun in the 2,300-2,400 rpm range, while his curveball reached approximately 2,700 rpm with hard downer action. He also flashed a short, late cutter.

Casey Murray, RHP, Pro5, 2027
Appalachian State. Athletic right-hander with strength present and additional projection remaining. Murray worked 87-89 mph and reached 90 with good arm speed. The fastball generated swing-and-miss and reached the 2,400 rpm range with arm-side run. His slider showed good length and gave hitters a different look from the fastball.

Will Parrish, RHP, Charlotte Christian, 2027
NC State. Athletic right-hander with strength through the lower half and room to continue adding to the frame. Parrish worked 88-91 mph with an athletic arm action, and the fastball played above its radar reading. His changeup stood out among the secondary offerings, featuring good arm speed and fade with potential to develop into a put-away offering.

Luke Samples, RHP, C.E. Jordan, 2027
Wake Forest. Tall, lean and projectable right-hander with good direction and arm speed. Samples worked 87-92 mph, showing the ability to move his fastball to both sides of the plate. He also landed his slider for strikes, giving him a solid foundation to build upon as additional strength comes to the frame.
