2026 SUMMER REWIND
The summer of 2026 provided Prep Baseball scouts with an extensive look at players from across North Carolina, with evaluations coming from Scout Days, Summer IDs, Rising Stars events and some of Prep Baseball's premier state, regional and national events.
With the summer schedule now complete, Summer Rewind takes another look at the players who stood out throughout the summer. The series will feature a collection of stories highlighting top performers, standout tools and notable statistical performances tracked by Prep Baseball scouts throughout the Summer of 2026.
From events across North Carolina to the NC/SC Border Battle, Tobacco Road State Games, East Coast Super Sophomore Games, Future Games and Senior Future Games, players had opportunities to perform in front of Prep Baseball's scouting staff while producing verified data through the technology used at each event.
Combining those in-person evaluations with the advanced analytics collected throughout the summer, Summer Rewind will spotlight players and performances that made an impression during a busy 2026 summer.
Top Fastball Movement - Induced Vertical Break
Induced Vertical Break - From TrackMan's Glossery of Terms: "Distance between the height at which the ball crosses home plate and the height at which it would have crossed if it travelled in a straight line from release and were affected by gravity, reported in inches or centimeters."
In Basic Terms - Fastball Induced Vertical Break
As far as deception and importance goes, fast induced vertical break (IVB) may be the most important. Induced vertical break is not what is sounds. IVB simply means the pitch is "breaking" upward from the average level a pitch falls from release to home plate. This is a stat that you want to stay away from being average at. Fortunately, this can be tweaked slightly depending on release height. To put it simply, the higher number = more "rise" the pitch has compared to average. Lower number = more depth the pitch has to it.
