Who are the top POTY candidates in each state?
January 10, 2024
The ‘Hotlist’ is a series that provides weekly insight into the high school baseball scene spanning the country, curated by Prep Baseball’s state directors who are situated nationwide, with vital intel on the prospects who are in their own backyards. Each week, we’ll publish our ‘Hotlist’ on varying topics that are timeliest to the national baseball calendar at that point in time.
This week’s topic: Now that we're officially into the new year, state directors called their shot on the player(s) they felt could be named the state’s 'Player of the Year' following the conclusion of the spring high school season.

🔥The ‘Hotlist’ (1/10):
Alabama
+ Carter Johnson, SS/RHP, Oxford HS (2024), Alabama commit:
“Johnson has continued to produce at the highest levels over the long haul as his stock has continued a meteoric rise. Johnson burst on the scene two years ago at the Future Games (with a commitment soon after to Alabama) and he has not looked back since then, which has also included an appearance in the inaugural Prep Baseball All-American Game this past fall. The sweet-swinging left-handed hitter is smooth in every facet of his game. Johnson shows a very disciplined approach at the plate with natural loft at contact and easy power to the pull-side. Defensively, the arm plays up with consistent carry and accuracy and a lightning-quick transfer while showing fluid actions.”
