Prep Baseball Report Nebraska's Elite 50 event took place on Sunday, May 20, 2018. The event was held at Westside High School in Omaha, NE. The event featured select prospects from the 2019, 2020 and 2021 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from the player's in attendance. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and college coaches; while also playing 14 innings. 

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the PBR NE Elite 50

As we drill down into the statistics: (40 players in attendance)

+   30 players ran sub-7.2 60's.
+   27 players recorded 85+ mph exit velocities
+   13 players recorded 80+ mph infield throws
+   11 players recorded 80+ mph outfield throws
+   6 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+   6 catchers recorded sub-2.1 pop times
+   19 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Catcher Reports 


Jaxson Simmerman C / Seward, NE / 2020

5-foot-10, 175 pound catcher had the top catchers pop time of the event of 1.9-1.96. Ranked #19 in the Nebraska 2020 rankings. Compact build. 7.27 runner. Hitch in load, timing struggled during around of BP. Avg. power, long swing, pull side approach, mostly ground ball contact. Above average defender and thrower behind the plate. Solid lateral movement and plate presents during the game portion of the Elite 50. Went 0-1 with three walks in his plate appearances.





Josh Senstock C / 2B / Lincoln Northeast, NE / 2021

6-foot, 158 pound catcher ran a 7.26 60 yard sprint. Lean frame, should continue to develop physically. Crouched stance, restricted swing, works mostly away, ability to find the barrel, line drive contact, above average pop in the bat for age. Posted an 84 mph exit velocity. Shows athleticism behind the plate, above average catch and throw in the 2.02-2.07, throws have carry. Went 0-3 in the game portion of the Elite 50 with a walk. Advanced actions behind the plate catching at the varsity level his freshman year. High follow as he continues to develop physically and athletically.




Drew Wessel C / SS / Millard South, NE / 2020

5-foot-11, 175 pound catcher ran a 7.7 60 yard sprint. Top catching prospect in the Nebraska 2020 class at this time. Some stiffness at the plate, spray hitter with line drive contact on the linear barrel plane. Posted an 75 mph exit velocity off a tee. Went 1-3 with a walk during his plate appearances. Show athleticism behind the plate, low base, above average receiver, threw to 2nd in the 2.01-2.09 range. Hit .406 with 28 hits and 10 RBIs this past spring while starting for the Class A State Tournament runner up.





James Valdivia C / SS / Elkhorn South, NE / 2019

6-foot-1, 200 pound catcher ran a 7.02 60 yard sprint. Arizona State commit. Physical frame and defined lower half.  Ranked #1 in Nebraska 2019 class, ranked #167 in National 2019 PBR Rankings. During round of BP mostly worked away, line drive contact, clean barrel path, solid pop in bat.Posted an 95 mph exit velocity off a tee. Went 3-4 with a triple and walk during the game portion of the event. Behind the plate threw to 2nd in the 1.97-2.08 range. Athletic actions behind the plate. Easy, controlled tempo in the infield, threw accurately across topping out at 84 mph.





Jackson Meier C / 1B / MIllard West, NE / 2019

6-foot-1, 185 pound catcher ran a 7.19 60 yard sprint. Ranked #24 in Nebraska 2019 rankings.  Athletic build. Short to contact at the plate, all fields approach, decent pop in bat, barreled balls consistently during round of BP. Line drive and fly ball contact during round of BP. Posted an 88 mph exit velocity. Went 0-4 during plate appearances during the Elite 50. Behind the plate, above average receiver, sound blocker. Threw to 2nd in the 1.97-2.07 range.





Tanner Lukowski RHP / C / Omaha Skutt Catholic, NE / 2019

6-foot, 185 pound two way player ran a 7.2 60 yard sprint. Ranked #26 in the Nebraska 2019 rankings. Strong- stiff finish, spray hitting with an all fields approach. Posted an 89 mph exit velocity off a tee. Went 0-4 in his plate appearances. Behind the plate, threw to 2nd in the 2.06-2.14 range. On the mound, topped out at 83 mph with his fastball. Sat in the 80-83 mph range. Arm action is short on the backside long out front. Mostly elevated for strikes. Rolling 11/5 shaped breaking ball with depth from a mid ¾ arm slot.
