Ardsley 6 - Valhalla 1

After throwing no-hitters in each of his previous two starts, Ardsley ace Brendan McNerney allowed back-to-back singles to begin the game against Valhalla on Monday. But the senior right-hander went on to strike out the next three batters, and 11 overall, to lead the Panthers to a 6-1 win.

McNerney put a runner on in all but one inning, eventually getting pulled with two outs in the sixth and the bases loaded. In 5 2/3 innings, he allowed four hits, three walks and two hit batsmen on 116 pitches (72 strikes), but usually got the big strikeout when he needed it. Dylan Resk relieved McNerney and induced a grounder to second to end the sixth. He loaded the bases in the seventh, but ended the game with a strikeout.

Resk got the Ardsley (6-6) bats going in the first with a solo home run that was hit well over the 376 ft. sign in left-center field. The Panthers scored three more in the second, with Bobby Wootten providing the big blow with a two-out, two-run single. Tristan Olmo and Peter Knights also had RBI for Ardsley, while Olmo and McNerney each had multi-hit games.

Valhalla left-hander Jesse Williams went five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks with six strikeouts on 99 pitches (59 strikes). Brett Holtz went 2 for 4 with a double and Sergio Osorio scored the Vikings (7-2) only run in the third on an error.
