Championship Week: Class C Final Four

Compiled from Staff Reports

Class C Final Four / The Breakdown

North Salem (Section 1)
Record:
16-6
Road to Binghamton:
Mahoney strikes out 13 to beat #1 seed in section final. Won 3-2 vs. Pine Plains and 2-1 over Southold to advance.
Key Contributors:
JB Healy, Connor Mahoney, Nate Carminucci
Semifinal Matchup:
vs. Avon; 5:30pm at NYSEG Stadium
Prediction:
Played some tight, low scoring matchups in the postseason. Major confidence builders in knowing you can win the nailbiters. Defending Champs can lean on that experience.

Avon (Section 5)
Record:
18-4
Road to Binghamton:
Defeated LeRoy 6-1 and cruised past Maple Grove 14-5 to advance to Final Four. 6-0 in the postseason.
Key Contributors: Maxx Countryman
, Padraig Coyne, Aaron Ghent, Peyton Parmeter
Semifinal Matchup:
vs. North Salem; 5:30pm at NYSEG Stadium
Prediction:
Countryman and Coyne are a combined 15-2, Parmeter can swing it with 14 doubles on the year. 20 runs over their last 2 games vs. the pitching of North Salem. If they can jump early and put the pressure on they have a chance.

Potsdam (Section 10)
Record:
9-6
Road to Binghamton:
Knocked off Ticonderoga 10-7 to advance. 16-2 win in Section final.
Key Contributors:  Jacob Keleher, Teddy Rice, Keller McGowan
Semifinal Matchup: vs. Cooperstown; 3pm at NYSEG Stadium
Prediction:
Averaging 13 runs a game over their last 4 games including a 23 hit outburst in the section semis, we know they can score. 2020 RHP McGowan has put up some impressive numbers on the mound. Least game experience on the year with just 15 games, will need to be perfect against Cooperstown.

Cooperstown (Section 3)
Record: 18-2
Road to Binghamton: 5-3 win over Section 4 Edison, took down Thousand Islands in Section 3 Final (8 innings).
Key Contributors: Reilly Hall, Taylor Price
Semifinal Matchup: vs. Potsdam; 3pm at NYSEG Stadium
Prediction: The "Cardiac Kids" of the postseason have had a walk-off, come from behind and extra innings wins. Hall is pure hitter and has been on fire down the stretch. Knowing that they're never out of it could help when it matters the most.

Our Thoughts

"This bracket is wide open for the taking. Potsdam can score runs, North Salem may have faced the best competition coming out of Section 1 and is the defending state champ, Avon's top two arms are a combined 15-2 on the year and have allowed 7 total runs in 3 postseason games and...how can you vote against a team from Cooperstown with the best overall record? Similar to the Class D bracket we might be leaning towards the pitching which could give Avon a slight edge over Cooperstown in the final."
