Garrett Whitley Excels On The Field And In The Classroom

Many young athletes dream of playing in the major leagues. Few get the opportunity to play professionally, much less make it to the highest level. That’s why it’s good to have a backup plan, something to fall back on if baseball doesn’t work out. OF Garrett Whitley (Niskayuna HS, NY) has been hearing that his whole life, but there is no Plan B for him right now.

“All my life, I've wanted to be a professional baseball player,” he said. “Everybody told me I had to have a backup plan. I've been trying to think of a backup plan and as of now, I still don't quite have one. There's nothing else I want to do.”

Rest assured, Whitley will be just fine if he has to seek an alternate path. As good as he is between the lines, he may have more upside outside of them. He is one of the top students in his class, scored a 2250 on his SAT and 33 on the ACT, and carries a 3.85 GPA. He hits the books as hard as he hits fastballs.
