Gonk's Guys: Uncomitted Summer Standouts - Part 3

Anthony Goncalves
VP of Operations

After a long and productive summer the PBR-NY Scouting Department has had some time to reflect back on the 1,000+ players that were at events. "Gonk's Guys" will highlight several uncommitted standouts as we head through the fall.

Gonk's Guys

Mason Davis C / 3B / Clarence , NY / 2020

Offensively: Davis can put on a show in batting practice. The right handed hitter has a strong build. Short compact swing with pop for a big frame. Displayed the bat speed at past events with a 95 exit velocity. Davis was impressive in live game action at the NY 2020 games.  Aggressive early in the count approach.

Defensively: Davis is a consistent thrower behind the plate. This past year, Davis has had a best 2.03 pop time and a throwing velocity of 78 MPH.

Overall: The uncommitted catcher can make a big impact at the college level next fall. A big body catcher that has impressive bat speed. Davis is a must follow.

Ryan Cardone 3B / RHP / Whitesboro , NY / 2020

Offensively: Cardone was impressive at the NY 2020 games. Cardone displayed a short compact swing and lived in the gaps in batting practice. Low effort simple actions. Will use a slight leg lift for timing and balance. Cardone can hit anywhere in the lineup. In the spring, Cardone is a tough out for opposing pitchers. He looks to get on and use his speed. Cardone plays faster than his 6.95 60 yard dash time.

Defensively: Cardone is just a good athlete that can play anywhere on the field. At the third, moves well laterally and gets rid of the ball quickly. Shows he can throw across the diamond from all different angles.

Overall: Cardone is a player that you find dirty after the game. Plays the game fast, smart, and aggressive. Also, Cardone can help his team on the mound. At the NY 2020 games, the RHP filled up the zone with an impressive two pitch mix. FB peaked at 80 MPH and CB ranged was 66-68 MPH.

Carmen Erno RHP / Columbia , NY / 2020

Offensively: Erno just hits and finds ways to get on base and stands in with a strong 5-foot-8, 170 pounds. Impressed every time watching Erno either in the winter or summertime; Erno plays the game fast, wouldn’t be surprised if Erno is hitting in the middle of the lineup at the next level.

Defensively- Erno can play multiple positions on the field. Always displaying active footwork and high IQ in live game action. Profiles best at third base or second base.

Overall: Erno plays the game with a chip on his shoulder. He can also help a team on the mound. He’s been up to 84 MPH with good command and feel for a CB and CH both for strikes. Erno can be an impact player at the next level.

Jake Garcia SS / RHP / Manhattan Center , NY / 2020

Offensively: Garcia is a fun player to watch. The 5-foot-7 frame stands out right away with his actions. At the plate, simple short compact swing. Sprayed the ball all over the field at the NY 2020 games. As he continues to get stronger and develop the power will come.

Defensively: Garcia put on a show. Slick fielding actions with low effort throwing actions. Gets rid of the ball quickly which can let him stay on the left side but projects best as a second baseman at the next level.

Overall: The game isn’t too fast for Garcia. Plays some of the better competition you will see and he excels. Garcia also was impressive on the mound. Garcia uses his whole body to gain momentum when working towards the plate. The ball comes out easy with low effort. Garcia will be a fun one to follow during the recruiting process.

Joe Reitebach RHP / Hamburg, NY / 2020

Pitching: Reitebach was impressive throughout the summer and especially at the NY 2020 games. The uncommitted RHP has a big strong frame at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds. Reitebach uses his thick lower half and drives downhill with his FB on the hitters. FB peaked at 85 MPH with late life. Displayed plus command going glove side in live game action. Also, has feel for a tight CB at 67-70 MPH and CH ranging from 71-73 MPH.

Overall: Reitebach is a big projectable RHP with a live arm. The 2020 RHP will be a fun one to follow.
