Keep An Eye On

Sebastian DeLaCruz, Port Jervis, Sr., RHP/1B: The tall righty will be relied upon both for his pitching and hitting skills. He’ll be playing at Keystone (Pa.) College next season.

Gio Marrero, Newburgh Free Academy, Sr., Util.: Marrero hit .500 as a sophomore while playing all over the field. A torn labrum kept him off the field as a junior and will keep him off the mound this year, but he’ll add pop to the lineup.

Robert McGuinness, James I. O’Neill, Sr., INF: McGuinness played in every game last season, hitting .354, scoring 15 runs and driving in 10. He’ll be leaned upon heavily as O’Neill adapts to playing without six starters who graduated.

Steve Moskwa, Wallkill, Sr., INF/RHP: Moskwa hit .317 as a junior and will be a significant player on the mound for a team looking to defend its Section 9 Class A title.

John Santana, Warwick, Sr., SS/RHP: Santana has 15 varsity wins and will be a key part of the rotation once again. He’s also a solid defender when not pitching.

Chris Skermo, Burke Catholic, Jr., 2B/CF: Skermo hit .472 as a sophomore. He reached base in all 20 games and struck out just three times in 84 at-bats. Look for him to build upon that with another year of experience.

Angel Suarez, Chester, Sr., Util.: The Hambletonians’ star running back returns to baseball after an absence of a few years. His speed will no doubt be a game-changer once Chester discovers how to utilize it on the diamond.

Dillon Taggart, Livingston Manor, Sr., C/RHP: Taggart won five games on the mound and posted a .446 batting average as a junior, scoring 30 runs and driving in 19. He’ll once again help make Manor a force in Class D.

No 5 in our 2016 player rankings Cole Whitney, Goshen, Sr., RHP/3B: The St. John’s commit is drawing the attention of professional scouts as well, so don’t be surprised to see a radar gun or two at some of his starts this season.

Killian Bloat, Liberty, Sr., RHP/CF: The staff ace hit .365 as a junior and will be a middle-of-the-order bat this season.
