Preseason Southern-Tier: Corner-Infield Analysis

The 10 day, eight preseason event tour has finally finished here in New York. Nearly 600 players attended events over that 10 days making this the biggest preseason week in PBR New York history. Over the next six weeks, measurable stats, headshots, and videos are all being edited and added to players profiles. We will break down the events by positions with full player analysis. Today we take a deeper look at the Feb. 15 (Southern-Tier) corner-infielders.
2020 1B/RHP Nikolas Bistrovich (Westhill)
Physical 6-foot-0, 245 pounds 1B/RHP. Offensively- has an open stance with loose hands held near his head and uses a high leg kick for timing before attacking the pitch. Has a slight arm-bar with a long load, straight bat path to the point of contact. Ball jumps off the bat gap to gap. Balanced thought the swing and follow through. Had an above average exit velocity of 86 MPH. Defensively- has above average footwork, stays low and square to the ball. Shows range when making turns to 2B with a low ¾ arm slot. Pitching- has a slow repeatable delivery, uses the lower half generate power when making a pitch. Shows FB command which topped out at 77 MPH. Showed a CB with some depth at 62-64 MPH, and a feel for a CH at 67-71 MPH. The 2020 graduate will continue to improve as he develops this upcoming season.
2020 1B/RHP Jonathan Haines (Arkport)
Physical 5-foot-11, 180 pounds. Offensively- open stance with loose hands which will drop when loading. Stays balanced with a leg kick and lands softly towards the pitcher when making contact. Flat barrel through the zone, and upright finish during the follow through. Displayed power potential with an above average exit velocity of 95 MPH during the hitting portion. Defensively- Has range around the bag. Stays square when attacking the ground ball, will funnel the ball and get into the exchange quickly. Has a ¾ arm slot, good arm strength with an 82 MPH position velocity. Pitching- Stays balanced through a repeatable delivery and hand separation. Stays on the backside and uses lower half to get downhill. Will fall off 1B side with an aggressive finish. High ¾ arm slot. FB topped out at 80 MPH, mixed in sharp CB (71-74 MPH), SL (70-74 MPH), and feel for a CH at 73-74 MPH. The bat of the 2020 graduate will make him a player to watch and an impact player at the next level.
2020 3B Dom Lomanco (Chenango Valley)
Athletic 5-foot-11, 180 pounds 2B. Offensively- Stands tall in the box, small load, and quick to the hitting zone. Has a flat bat path, balanced throughout the swing and upright finish. Worked the middle of the field during the hitting portion. Exit velocity was 82 MPH. Defensively- Stays back and squared when fielding the ball. Smooth exchange and loose arm action across the diamond. Follows the throw and had an INF position velocity of 72 MPH. The 2020 INF has the frame to increase his numbers as he develops.
2020 1B/RHP Jacob Okulewicz (Williamsville North)
Athletic 6-foot-1, 180 pounds with broad shoulders. Offensively- Stands tall in the box with a slight bend in the knees. Lowers hands when loading for timing. Has a short compact swing, flat bat path, and balanced throughout the swing. Worked the middle of the field during the hitting portion. Had an exit velocity of 80 MPH. Defensively- Soft hands and range around the bag. Smooth exchange, loose arm action on turns. Had a position velocity of 72 MPH. Pitching- Starts with hands at the belt. Smooth balanced repeatable delivery and hand separation. Has FB (72 MPH) command and feel for a CH (62-64 MPH). The 2020 graduate has an athletic frame to increase numbers. Ran a 7.07 60 yd dash.
2020 3B/RHP Zach Taro (Susquehanna Valley)
Athletic projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. Offensively- Stands tall with a slight bend in the knees. Uses a leg in the load and lands softly towards the pitcher. Loose hands, whips the bat through the hitting zone. Displayed power potential working in the middle of the field and above average exit velocity of 93 MPH. Defensively- Has range laterally, soft hands, stays square and funnels to a smooth exchange. Follows the throws with a ¾ arm slot with a position velocity of 78 MPH. Pitching- Smooth balanced repeatable delivery. High leg lift, smooth hand separation when working towards the plate. High ¾ arm slot. Topped with the FB at 78 MPH and mixed in a CB 68-70 MPH and feel for a CH 72-73 MPH. The 2020 graduate has a projectable frame to follow going forward.
2022 LHP/1B Zachary Fike (Medina)
Projectable 6-foot-0, 170 pounds with wide shoulders. Offensively- The left handed hitter stands tall in the box with loose hands. Slight leg lift and stride towards the pitcher. Balanced throughout the swing. Displayed a flat bat path through the zone, consistent line drives to all fields in the hitting portion. Exit velocity of 86 MPH. Defensively- Attacks the ball with active feet. Soft hands and good range around the bag. Makes throws from a ¾ arm slot with an infield velocity of 75 MPH. Pitching- The LHP pitches with a quick tempo and repeatable delivery. Use a high leg kick to generate power down the mound. Smooth hand separation with a ¾ arm slot and command of a 3 pitch mix. FB peaked at 78 MPH with arm side run, CB 63-65 MPH, and feel for a CH at 68-69 MPH. The 2022 graduate has a high ceiling and is someone to follow in the future.
2021 RHP/3B Connar Hoehman (Williamsville North)
Physical 5-foot-11, 175 pound RHP/3B. Offensively- The right handed hitter stands tall in the box with loose quiet hands at the shoulders. Quick bat to the hitting zone and slight lift with the barrel at contact point. Balanced throughout the swing with a two handed finish. Power potential with a 84 MPH exit velocity. Defensively- Aggressive with active footwork. Stays squared to the ball with a quick exchange. Throws from a low ¾ arm slot and a glove tap to gain ground. Throws across the diamond peaked at 70 MPH. Pitching- The RHP has a repeatable drop and drive delivery down the mound. Leads with the front hip towards the target and finishes on the 1B side of the mound. FB peaked at 77 MPH, CB 60-62 MPH, and a CH 67-68 MPH. The 2021 graduate has the body to continue to improve his stats across the board
