Q & A with Ben Contento 1B/P (Colonie HS, NY)

Dan Cevette
New York Scouting Director

Name: Benjamin Contento
High School: Colonie HS
College Commitment: St. Bonaventure
Position: 1B/P

PBR New York sat down with Colonie HS standout Benjamin Contento for a little question and answer session.

PBR: How did you prepare for the 2014 HS baseball season?

Contento: I trained over at frozen ropes and worked on increasing my velocity, and I got on a conditioning program to get ready for the season.

PBR: What are your strengths and weaknesses as a player?

Contento: My strengths as a player are my ability to remain calm under pressure and after a tough play. And my ability to use my fastball is a strength. My weaknesses are probably trying to overthrow my fastball when I'm ahead in the count.

PBR: Who was the best team you faced this year? Best player?

Contento: The best team we faced this year was Shenendehowa, they are loaded and play the game very well. The best player would be Kevin Smith. I have played with or against Kevin since I was 13, the kid can play!

PBR: What made you pick St. Bonaventure?

Contento: I picked the Bonnie's because the team is one big family and I like the atmosphere between the players. The campus is gorgeous and Coach Sudbrook seems like a great coach and person. He was very straight forward and direct with me through the recruiting process.

PBR: Tell us a fun fact about yourself others might not know.

Contento: I almost quit pitching when I was 13 years old because my summer ball team didn't have me throw at all.
