The Vandalia Butler program and North Carolina recruit Taylore Cherry are receiving a number of pre-season accolades.

But, behind Cherry and senior standout Lance Straley, a number of players will be asked to fill important roles as the squad looks to live up to their 2012 expectations.

Junior Peter Yorgen is one of those players.

The 5-foot-10, 150-pound versatile prospect shows the ability to help his squad at several different positions.

In the outfield, Yorgen shows fluid actions with solid over the top arm strength that reaches up to 83 mph.

In the infield, he shows good feet and hands as infielder, but needs to shorten his transfer and exchange.

Behind the plate, he shows good lateral blocking ability and accepts the ball well with a 2.01-2.07 pop time.

Despite his obvious versatility, Yorgen says his biggest strength is “Probably my hitting. I'm always trying to hit the gaps and move base runners into position to score.”

He is the type of player that is likely to do the little things to help his team.

If a scout were to walk away from a game after watching him play, Yorgen says, “I would want them to say that I can hustle, hit, run, field, throw, and do whatever it takes to help the team get the win.”

This spring, the talented junior has clear goals set out.

“As a team, I want to see us win our conference again, go as far as we did last year in the tournament, and make it to Columbus in the postseason.”

He already has some specific games marked on the calendar.

“I would have to say Northmont because of how well and far they went in the postseason last year and because they are one of our biggest rivals. I'm really looking forward to our game against Moeller,” he explains.

This summer, Yorgen will be playing for the Dayton Dynasty.

He will be participating in the Top Prospect Games in June at Prasco Park.
