Typically, younger siblings have an advantage in many areas of life.

That truth applies to the recruiting process as well.

Logan Giddings, a freshman first baseman and pitcher from Pickerington North High School, is following in the foot steps of his older brother Cale Giddings, who recently signed to play at the University of Akron.

Recently, Logan stood out as one of the top performers at the first Pre-Season Underclass in Dayton.

Like his older brother Cale, Logan has a big time bat. But, unlike older brother, Logan hits from the left side of the plate. He shows a balanced swing, smooth load, and strength in his hands. With excellent torque from his lower half and a slight uphill path to the ball, he shows homerun power potential.

Logan believes his skill set goes beyond his bat. He notes, “My biggest strength as a baseball player is being athletic and being able to play most of the positions on the field. I also feel that I have what it takes to help a team score runs with my hitting ability.”

After watching Cale for years, he knows there is still plenty of work to be done to reach the next level.

“I need to improve my mental approach on the field and at the plate.” He goes on to say, “I also need to work on my velocity on the mound and my footwork in general.”

As Logan prepares for his first season of high school baseball and Cale prepares for his last season, the brothers may have a unique opportunity to play together.

“Playing together would mean a lot to me as I have never played with him before,” Logan says.

He later jokes, “Well, except when I was a pinch runner when he was 11 and I was 8.”

Before that happens, the talented freshman knows that he has a lot of work ahead of him.

“My expectations are very high. I think ever player should have a desire to compete for a spot on varsity, but I would also enjoy any opportunity to play JV and work my way up.”

No matter his level of play, Logan’s relationship with his older brother has helped prepare him for the next steps along his path in baseball.

The younger brother notes, “He has taught me how to remain positive when playing tough competition, and that I'm always going to have ups and downs and how to play through it.”

This summer, Logan will play for the 15U Ohio Elite. In addition, he will be participating in the 2012 Underclass Games at The Ohio State University.
