Teddy Eyink RHP / Saint Ignatius, OH / 2020

HINCKLEY - Teddy Eyink remembers when the idea of playing at the next level began.

“I’ve had college baseball as a goal since my first PBR event after my freshman year,” reflected Eyink, who was 6-0 and 150 pounds at the time.

Now 6-3 and 215, the St. Ignatius senior credits two older brothers that played baseball as influences.

“But I want to trace my own steps,” added Eyink, who will get that opportunity after committing to Purdue - Fort Wayne.

“Since day one I’ve believed with hard work I could achieve my goals,” the 74th-rated 2020 in the state said about making a commitment to the Division I program. “I was small as a freshman, but in talking to my coaches they saw that I could do this. From the mental side, this has always been realistic for me.”

The Summit League school began showing an interest in Eyink after the summer season.

“They saw some videos of me and saw me play one time,” the 28th-rated senior right-handed pitcher in Ohio related. “They liked my attitude. They talked to my high school coach and my other coaches and took a chance on me. It’s a great deal. I figure I fit in well.”

A fall visit helped in the decision.

“It was a friendly atmosphere,” said Eyink, who had also taken visits to Youngstown State and Mercyhurst. “The players I got to meet were hard working and genuine guys. That’s something I want to be a part of.”

The last six months have been big in his development.

“I’ve been working on my body,” Eyink explained. “I’ve decreased fat and increased muscle. I’ve put on pounds and I’m 215 now. But the big thing for me has been to clean up movements on the mound so I’m throwing easier. I hit 91 last week.”

Velocity is only a small part of what stood out to Purdue-Fort Wayne.
