Fyffe Likes The Opportunity Given At Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD - The Future Games helped finalize the college destination of Logan Fyffe, who will still live in Springfield only now it will be in Missouri instead of Ohio.

“Missouri State offered me before the Future Games, but after the Future Games they ended up giving me more money with how much they liked me,” the Kenton Ridge junior related. “I talked to them there every day.”

A visit for the 16-year-old followed the PBR event, which also brought interest and offers from Notre Dame, Toledo and Kent State.

“I went there after the Future Games and the campus was awesome,” Fyffe reflected about a trip to Missouri State. “They have a really nice stadium and the people out there seem amazing.”

Ironically, the connection between the third-rated 2024 shortstop in Ohio and the Missouri Valley Conference school began thanks to a player on the opposing team.

“Missouri State first saw me when they came to watch a kid pitch against us,” Fyffe noted. “It was the second or third tournament of the summer at Grand Park and I went 2-for-3 with a home run and double. After seeing me a couple more times they gave me an offer.”

Fyffe - who in the fall of last year “had no looks and nobody talking to me” - liked what he was hearing from the school located in southwest Missouri.

“I talked to all the coaches and they all seemed interested in me,” the 18th-ranked junior in Ohio explained. “They said they see me getting an opportunity to play as a freshman.”

The 6-0 170-pound middle infielder made an impression on a program that won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament championship this past season, the third league title in the past seven seasons played and with it a fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament in that time frame.

“They like my swing,” Fyffe said. “They said I have a smooth swing and I’m really good in the field. They have a ton of confidence in me and just love my family.”

Getting to the point of being a college commit was, admittedly, not easy.

“Jordan Chiero (PBR Ohio Director of Scouting) set me up with a hit coach, Matt Talarico, and he gave me some hitting tips,” Fyffe pointed out. “I got my first offer from Butler during the high school season. The recruiting process was very stressful, but fun at the same time. When it went down to the wire it was stressful. You’re picking something that’s going to affect the rest of your life.”

The desire to play baseball as long as possible has been a priority for Fyffe for some time.

“Since I was little I’ve wanted to be a major leaguer,” Fyffe said. “Brandon Phillips was my favorite player and I remember watching him and wanting to play college baseball and beyond. After that I began to put in more work and it all came together this spring. Now I have a chance to play at another level.”

Improvement over the past year proved vital in making it happen.

“Last year I was 5-7, short and kind of chubby,” Fyffe related. “In the offseason I got a strength coach and a hit coach. I grew four inches and got stronger and quicker. My hands in the field became better and I got a lot more power which helped me with hitting the ball.”

With the skills at a higher level, Fyffe drew interest that eventually ended in an offer and commitment.

“It feels great to know I’m going to a place that I’m wanted and will get an opportunity to play,” noted Fyffe, who carries a 3.9 GPA and is planning on a major in business and finance at Missouri State. “Now I’m looking forward to meeting new people, hanging with my new teammates and playing college baseball.”
