With the 2019 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state. Starting in January, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2019 Spring Team Preview: Hudson explorers

Team Name: Hudson Explorers
Head Coach: Buddy Dice
Division: I
2018 Record: 17-11
Conference Record: Northeast Ohio Conference, 9-5 (T-1st)
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 6/8

2019 Team Strengths:

  • Pitching
  • Base Running
  • Defense
  • Commitment

Coach Outlook: "Could be special if we find 9 hitters."

PBR Outlook: With all their arms returning and six positional starters back from a 17 win team in 2018, I would keep an eye on the Explorers and head coach Buddy Dice. There is plenty of talent and experience for Hudson to make a run in 2019.

Top Returning Players:

  • Nolan O'Connell (Video), 1B/LHP, 2019, 6-4/185, R/L, 2-year starter, team captain, 2nd team All-state, Findlay recruit, Hit .450 and stole 20 bases last year.
  • Grant Gedeon, C, 2019,  6-2/205, R/R, 2 year starter, sub 2.0 pop time, hit over .300 each year.
  • Ryan Mitcheltree, OF, 2019, 5-8/140, R/R, 2-year varsity experience, hit .321 with 23 steals.
  • Ethan Samangy, RHP/C, 2019, 5-11/150, R/R, 5-0 with a 1.40 ERA last season
  • Parker Tallman, RHP, 2019, 6-2 180, R/R, 3-1 with a 2.47 ERA last season
  • Bryce McClure, RHP, 2019, 5-9/160, R/R, 2 saves 1.52 ERA, 1 BB in 18 1/3 innings
  • Blake Farley, SS, 2020, 5-10/155, L/R, Starting SS as a Sophomore, hit .300 with 26 steals (team leader),
  • Sylvan Wiley, LHP, 2020, 6-0/165, L/L, made team as sophomore 19 innings 2-1 with 3 saves
