Justin McConnell, SS, Springboro HS, Class of 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Wright State?

McConnell: I chose Wright State because of the great facilities, quality education, and the coaches. I love the coaches and have really started to develop strong relationships with all of them. Also, Wright State has a track record of developing players and getting them to the next level.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

McConnell: Other schools I had interest in were Ball State, Miami (OH), Dayton, and UC.

PBR: Coach Lovelady and his staff are making an immediate impact at Wright State including a deep run the NCAA tournament.  How does it feel to be a part of his era as the Raiders coach?

McConnell:  It's an extremely exciting feeling knowing I will be fortunate to play for a coaching staff that knows how to compete at such a high level, and develop kids to play at the next level.

PBR: Wright State is close to home, how much of a role did distance play in your decision?

McConnell: Location has never been a huge deciding factor for me, however, being able to have family and friends at most of my games will be an awesome bonus.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

McConnell: It's an awesome feeling. I've wanted this since I was young and for it to be real is truly a blessing.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

McConnell: I play with the Dayton Classics. My most memorable experience was playing in the Branch Rickey tournament. It was a great experience playing some great, older competition.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

McConnell: My dad for sure. He was my coach when I was younger and has been my life coach ever since. He's at almost everyone of my games always supporting. I cannot thank him enough.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season?

McConnell: I batted .333 and started in left field.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?

McConnell: The toughest pitcher I faced was Nick Bennett.
