Jared Burick, OF, Tallmadge HS, Class of 2018

PBR: Why did you choose Wright State?

Burick: I chose Wright St. for a few reasons: I really liked the coaching staff and the winning tradition they have built; they are big on player development and going out and competing against the top teams and that matches my personal goals; and lastly, I feel the coaches were completely honest with me during the process and that says a lot about their character.

PBR: What other schools were you considering along the way?

Burick: Ohio University, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Youngstown State, Ohio Dominican and Walsh

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship build with them?

Burick: Coach Sogard saw me play this summer in a few tournaments in the Cincinnati and Kentucky areas. It wasn't until the end of the summer season that I started communicating with Coach Sogard. Coach Sogard then spoke to Coach Mercer about me and they asked for me to attend the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase at Wright St. There I had the opportunity to speak at length with Coach Mercer about becoming part of the program.

PBR: Was the recruiting process everything that you expected?

Burick: I wasn't really sure what to expect with the recruiting process. I had no expectations going into it. Things started slow for me and as early as last fall with dialog with coaches and seemed to pick up steam in the summer. The last two weeks however was a whirlwind of activity so it seemed like it all came on me at once.

PBR: You just participated in the Unsigned Senior Showcase at Wright State and you committed there that day.  How did your performance at the event affect your decision?

Burick: I felt I was able to showcase my skills and reassure Coach Mercer and Coach Sogard that I am the type of player that can fit well into their program. Leaving that day with an offer solidified my decision that they wanted me and it was the right fit for me.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Burick: It has always been a goal of mine to play at the D1 level. I am truly blessed to be given this opportunity.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Burick: Brownlee Lookouts. My most memorable experience this summer was hitting a 2 Run HR at Xavier to give my team a jumpstart and a 2-0 lead that we never looked back from.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Burick: My dad has been the biggest impact for me. He taught me the game and helped me develop into the player I am today. He believed in my abilities and pushed me to strive to be my best.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

Burick: As a Pitcher I was 10-1 on the season with a 2.33 ERA and 64 K's. Offensively hit .300 with 13 Doubles, 1 HR, 20 RBI's, and 24 Runs

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?

Burick: Kyle Nicholas from Massillon Jackson (Ball St. Commit)
