Ryan Callahan, OF, Bexley HS, Class of 2019

PBR: Why did you choose Wright State?

Callahan: I chose Wright State for many reasons. The most important to me was the relationship that I have built with the whole coaching staff there. Also, the culture and winning ways that the baseball program has is outstanding. Overall, I feel it is the best fit for me both academically and athletically.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Callahan: I was also considering Ohio University and Miami of Ohio.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you and how did you did your relationship build with them?

Callahan: Coach Metzger watched one of my high school games in the spring. From there we continued to talk. I visited the campus after the high school season. Since then, both Coach Metzger and Coach Mercer have seen me play multiple times during the summer ball season. Our relationships have grown very strong and I am very excited to play for them in the future years.

PBR: Was the recruiting process everything that you expected?

Callahan: The recruiting process was a lot quicker than I was expecting. However, it was very exciting and I learned a lot throughout the process.

PBR: Wright State is close to home, how much of a role did distance play in your decision?

Callahan: Wright State being close to home played somewhat of an important role in my decision. However, it was more important to find the right fit. Wright State feels like home to me. It being close to my family is just a bonus, knowing they will be able to watch me play a lot.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Callahan: It is very exciting to accomplish my life long goal of committing to play baseball at the Division One level. However, I know how hard I am going to have to work and I am looking forward to the challenges in the future.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Callahan: I play for the Bo Jackson Elite in the summer. The most memorable moment from this summer was just being able to hangout and be with my best friends every weekend. I have grown close to many people who I know will have as my friends for life.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Callahan: A lot of people have had great impacts on my baseball career, such as my high school Coach, Coach Orlins, and my summer ball Coaches, Coach Belli, Coach Wolford and Coach Brady. However my family played the biggest role. More specifically is my older brother Eric.  From a very young age, he pushed me to being the greatest ball player and person that I could be. He set a path for me to follow. Eric plays at Millersville University in Pennsylvania and continues to be successful and teach me more about the game every day.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?
Callahan: In the Spring I batted .429 with 36 hits, 21 RBI, 8 doubles, 4 triples and one home run.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?

Callahan: I have faced a lot of very good pitchers, however, I think that Ben Vore is the best.
