Marshall Provides Hunter Chance To Play In The South

Calvin Hunter OF / RHP / Milford , OH / 2019

MILFORD - When Calvin Hunter moved to Ohio six years ago his baseball life changed.

“I grew up in the state of Washington but my dad’s job brought us here,” noted the Milford senior, who just completed his fifth year playing summer ball for the Cincinnati Baseball Club. “The level of competition in baseball is so different. Ohio is a baseball state.”

The benefits have been great for Hunter, a 6-4 215-pound outfielder.

“I adjusted well,” Hunter noted. “I had a lot of success my first year here. Seeing good players day in and day out rather than just sporadically has really helped me become a better player.”

It also helped Hunter get exposure and with it a future home in the sport after committing to Marshall.

“They saw me at a Cincinnati Flames tournament and in Indianapolis the end of July,” Hunter said. “The first game they saw me I hit a home run and made a couple nice plays in the outfield. They called a couple weeks later. It took awhile to set up a visit, but I finally went in mid-August.”

The chance to play in Conference USA with schools from Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Louisiana, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Mississippi and Kentucky was too much to pass up for Hunter.
