Anderson Township- A day after giving head coach Adam Nemo his first win as a varsity coach, Turpin seemed poised to pull a shocking upset over right-handed pitcher Zach Cook (Winthrop recruit) and the Milford Eagles.

But Milford second baseman Nick Giordullo laced a two-out, game winning single to right scoring senior outfielder Joe Zurschmeide for a final score of 4-3.

Milford’s Cook pitched 4 and 1/3 innings and was taken out with the score tied 3-3. Cook gave up three hits and struck out seven. Unsigned senior RHP/OF Cole Eckelman earned the win with 2 and 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Milford’s offense banged out 12 hits and walked four times. Junior DH Ty Helton led Milford’s hit parade with 3 hits, including 2 doubles and an RBI.

Turpin’s defense kept it close behind the efforts of junior third baseman Derek Varner, junior second basemann Alec Capetillo, and sophomore shortstop Pat Fletch, who all turned in several stellar plays.

Turpin threw freshman John “Milt” Pappas today in his first varsity start. Pappas gave up three earned runs on seven hits while striking out two. His fastball sat at 71-73 mph with a nice breaking ball that kept Milford’s hitters off balance.

Milford’s head coach Tom Kilgore’s commented “we have a nice mixture of upper and lower class man and I am trying to find the right mix of pitchers to complement Cook.”

Coach Kilgore added, “Our offense will carry us until our rotation gets settled.”

Milford (4-0) plays host Friday to Turpin (1-3) at Milford.
