By Matthew Lee

In DII sectional play at Clyde High School, Lexington advances to the sectional championship against #1 seed Bellevue Thursday at 5:00 at Clyde High School by defeating Willard 3-0.

Lexington was lead by sophomore pitcher Zach Temple as he no-hit the potent Willard offense. Temple out dulaed Senior Kyle Fruharty, Heidelberg commit, in a very well pitched game.

The game was knotted a zero until the top of the 3rd inning when Lexington got to Fruharty with back to back singles from juniors Mason Willeke and Zach Sterry. Junior Logan Bastin, with runners on 1st and 3rd singled to center to drive in the first run of the game and move Sterry to 3rd. Fruharty had a great pick-off move to 1st, that caught Bastin running to 2nd. Bastin was able to get caught up in a run down log enough to allow Sterry to score from 3rd to make it a 2-0 game.

Lexington was able to increase their lead to 3-0 in the 5th as Willeke singled followed by an RBI double by Sterry.

As for the very potent Willard offense, Lexington ace Zach Temple was in charge. Temple allowed base on balls in the 2nd and 3rd inning but no other Willard batter reached base. Temple was dominating with his off-speed pitches as he was able to spot the baseball. He finished the no-hitter with seven strike outs. This was Temple's second win of the season..

Coach Jeff Strickler said that Temple is very effective when he keeps the ball down below the belt and he did that today. He also credited the defense behind Temple as they played error free baseball. Temple commented that he really had controll of all his off-speed pitches and was able to hit his spots.

Lexington was lead offensively by Sterry 3-3, Willeke 2-4. Bastin added an RBI single and junior James Watkins and freshman Evan Lee also added hits.
