Q and A with 2015 Akron Commit: John Malott (Milford HS)

John Malott, OF, Milford HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Akron?

Malott:  I chose Akron because I have a really good relationship with all of the coaches, I like the campus, and the indoor facility is really nice.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Malott: Eastern Kentucky, Dayton, UC, and Oakland

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you and how did your relationship develop?

Malott: The coaching staff saw me at a camp at Akron in the winter of my sophomore year.  Then they watched me play in the fall of the next season.    I visited Akron for the first time on November 1st, 2013.  We got in regular contact after that and I visited again this June and I received an offer.  I committed about two weeks later.

PBR: You recently participated in PBR’s Top Prospects Games.  How did your performance help you in the recruiting process?

Malott: It helped me receive more contact from different colleges.

PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?

Malott: It feels like a great opportunity to play under experienced coaches and to play against some of the best baseball players in the country.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Malott: I play summer baseball for the Cincy Flames.  My most memorable experience was the first two games of the season when we had four-five pitcher only's hitting in our starting lineup and we still won both games.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Malott: My coach for the last two seasons, Coach Spring, has had the greatest impact on my baseball career.  He was coached me in two of the most important summer seasons in my life.  He has helped me with my hitting, my out fielding, and even a little pitching in these last two years.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Milford?

Malott: 26 hits, 3 2b, 2 3b, 24 RBI, 9sb, .441 obp, .321 avg.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Malott: Blake Swanger.  He has a good fast ball along with a good curveball and I did not hit good at all against him.
