Q and A with Findlay Commit Mason Mayberry (Bowling Green HS)

Mason Mayberry, RHP/1B, Bowling Green HS

PBR: Why did you choose Findlay?

Mayberry: I chose Findlay because it was the best overall school for me academically and athletically.  They had a special doctorate program in pharmacy which very few schools have.  Findlay was the right size school for me and was close to home as well.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Mayberry:  Bowing Green, Adrian, Ohio Northern

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Mayberry:  Coach Berry and Coach Antonides first saw me at one of their camps last year.  We kept in touch throughout the winter and they helped me feel comfortable with their program.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Mayberry:  They feel that I can be an impact player.  They see me competing for a starting pitcher spot and for time at first base.  If all goes well, they see my being a key guy in the rotation for the future.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Oiler baseball?

Mayberry:  My biggest strength is my willingness to compete.  I have a great passion for the game and hate to lose at anything.  I feel that I can make others better from friendly competition at practice.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Mayberry:  I play for Whitehouse Legion in the summer.  The most memorable experiences of the summer were playing against my BG teammate Daniel McKinney’s summer team in the Black Swamp championship.  After Legion season ended, I played for my high school ACME team and we won the State Championship.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team for the rest of your senior season?

Mayberry: Well the main goals are to win the league and make a long run in the state playoffs.  Individually, I just want to improve each day and help my team in any way possible.

PBR: What were your stats for last spring season at Bowling Green?

 Mayberry:  3-0, 1sv, 1.37 ERA, 1.2 K/In, 0.72 WHIP

                       .330 BA, 20 RBI, 3 3B

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?

Mayberry:  Deion Tansel (Toledo recruit)
