Alex Streitenberger 2B / 3B / Gahanna Lincoln, OH / 2020

GAHANNA - Alex Streitenberger was not about to let a “disadvantage” keep him from his college baseball dream.

“My parents and coaches told me since a young age that I was not going to be taller than anybody,” explained Streitenberger, now 5-8 and 175 pounds. “So I knew I’d have to be stronger than everybody and I’ve been grinding in the gym.

“I knew with recruiting I’d be at a disadvantage, so I’d have to wow them in a different way. I had to be faster and stronger than everyone to get their attention.”

It has all paid off for the Gahanna Lincoln junior, who recently made a commitment to Cincinnati.

“Being on the Flames (summer team), they were always in Cincinnati for tournaments and UC went to a handful of the games,” Streitenberger noted.

There was also an opportunity to see the 24th-ranked 2020 player in Ohio at PBR events.

“The first Top Prospect Games (in June) I did really well and they were there,” Streitenberger said. “I was invited to the next TPG (for the classes of ‘20 and ‘21 in late July) at Wright State.”

There was also a WWBA in Georgia in July and the Future Games in early August helping bring interest from schools like Miami, Ohio U and Dayton. But in the end it came down to a pair of UC schools, Cincinnati and Connecticut.
