Unsigned Senior Spotlight: John Hakemoller (Moeller HS)

John Hakemoller, RHP, Moeller HS

Pitching for Moeller’s prestigious baseball program can put a lot of pressure on a young athlete.  But for Senior, John Hakemoller pitching in big games has been something he has been doing for a long time.

During the summer, Hakemoller also plays for the well-known, Cincinnati Flames.  They are accustomed to attending some of biggest summer baseball tournament throughout the country.  Performing well in these tournaments has helped John to get noticed by several Division 1 coaches.

He is currently talking to Indiana, Akron, Dayton, Ashland, and Bellarmine. He is planning on making a decision fairly soon.

The 3.7 GPA student, says there are a couple elements when choosing his college of choice.  “A program where I can contribute, certainly a school with great academics, and because I am a pitcher, a program that has a pitching coach I can learn from."

In February, John attended PBR’s Unsigned Senior Showcase where he was one of the top pitchers in attendance.

Here is what PBR had to say about John performance on the hill:

The 5’11, 205-pound right-handed pitcher has a thick, solid build. He uses a smooth and easy delivery along with quick arm speed through a high ¾ arm slot. He shows command of a heavy fastball that has effective ASR and sits at 85-86 mph. His curveball is his best out pitch. It stays between 73-75 mph and has sharp, late 11/5 break. His changeup is thrown near fastball arm speed and sits at 74-76 mph, but lacks consistency in the zone.

Hakemoller enjoyed his time at the showcase. “The showcase was great, the filming of the players as well as getting our numbers out, so other coaches and schools can see how we performed  and what we might be capable of in the future, was terrific.”

John’s 2012 summer schedule will consist of the following tournaments: Columbus Cobras Classic, Nischwitz Memorial, Flames Classic, Midwest Classic, Ohio Valley Elite, and the Sandlot Wood Bat Championship.
