Unsigned Senior Spotlight: LHP Kris Popham (Olentangy Liberty)



Kris Popham, a 6-foot-8, 180-pound prospect from Olentangy Liberty, is one of the top unsigned pitchers from Central Ohio.

Popham is a tall and lanky projectable left-handed pitcher. He features an easy 80-82 mph fastball that shows some arm side run. From his high ¾ arm slot, he uses a 63-65 mph curveball with 2/7 movement and a 67-69 mph slider. In addition, he shows a developing straight changeup that sits at 68 mph. With plenty of room to fill out, he should only continue to add velocity.
At this point in the recruiting process, Popham says, “I am currently weighing my options and will most likely wait until the spring to commit.”

Right now, he is hearing from Toledo, Youngstown State, UNC Asheville, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Louisburg College, John Carroll, Heidelberg, Washington and Jefferson, Marietta, and Ohio Northern.

As he considers the different factors involving in his decision, Popham says, “I am looking for a school with strong academics and a winning baseball program.”

In addition, he says, “I am looking for a balance between academics, athletics, and social life.”
Later this fall and winter, Popham will be attending Louisburg College’s prospect camp, the PBR College Prospect Camp at SWOBAT in Cincinnati, and possibly the UNC Asheville prospect camp in December.

Next summer, Popham will continue to play for the Ohio Elite baseball organization. Last summer, he went 7-1 on the mound.

In the fall while playing for the Midwest Redbirds, Popham threw 9 innings and only allowed 1 earned run, striking out 10 batters, and walking 5.

He has a 3.5 GPA along with a 25 ACT.
