2018 Ontario Youth Team - The Outfielders

Baseball Ontario has announced the Ontario Youth Roster, which will represent the province at the Canada Cup taking place August 8th through 12th in Moncton, New Brunswick. The Canada Cup is a premier 17U tournament and features teams from each province competing for the national championship. Ontario’s roster was announced after the completion of the 40-man tryout this past week in Vaughan, which featured 40 players vying for one of the final 20 roster spots. Below is an in depth look at the outfielders with notes from the tryouts and what could be when the Canada Cup kicks off.

THE OUTFIELDERS

Kieran Gagnon OF / RHP / Westside, ON / 2019

Report: You could not miss Gagnon during the tryouts as he was making an impact all over the field. His speed is a game changer with a sub 6.60 60-time that plays on the base paths and in the outfield. In the outfield, he can cover a lot of ground with confident strides and an arm that will get close to average. He gets good reads and can make all the plays in centre. Gagnon is a contact hitter who can use the whole field. There is some bat speed, which results in hard contact. Power is not a big part of his game right now but the mechanics are there to add some power with added strength. Gagnon has the tools to impact the game in many ways and seems to be always around the action.
