Coast II Coast - Unsigned Senior Catchers

Below we highlight eight uncommitted catchers that made an impression on our staff this summer and fall from across the country. Many of these catchers are your typical Canadian left-handed hitting bats with upside to come along with the present tools that they possess. Video and reports below for all of these uncommitted players below.

JAKE VRLAKC / OF / WEST POINT GREY ACADEMY, BC / 2021

Report: Vrlak is one of the top catchers available from Canada in the 2021 class. A strong frame that has tools on both sides of the ball, its a compact swing with bat to ball skills that has a chance to translate from present gap to gap to real time power. He catches the ball well and shows mobility out the crouch. Lots of room to grow, Vrlak has a ton of upside and is going to be a good get for someone.

JORDAN BACHC / OF / VANCOUVER COLLEGE, BC / 2021

Report: Left-handed bat that is smooth and works with not much effort out from the 6-foot-1 Bach out of White Rock. There is finish to the swing and lots of room to fill out and add strength. Someone to really keep an eye on early in 2021 as the bat has chance to make a lot of noise.

KELAN POLARDC / 3B / BELLEROSE COMPOSITE, AB / 2021

Report: Pollard is a right-handed hitting catcher with feel in the box and room to grow defensively behind the dish. He had a best pop time of 2.10 while he was clocked 73 mph out the crouch. It’s a narrow stance so there is some room to become more relaxed and for his numbers to continue to improve. At the plate, slight uphill path that was able to drive the ball in the air in BP and gets extended with a high two-hand finish. Also can play third-base, we liked what we saw in the fall, will be sure to follow Polard and see how he comes out the gates early in 2021.

ZACH COLEC / 3B / DR. EP SCARLETT, AB / 2021

Report: Cole is a left-handed hitting catcher who can throw. He showed us carry and accuracy in October and did a good job of getting rid of the ball. The swing has room for improvement as the path works down and he can get into his legs more. At 6-foot, 190-pounds, Cole has some skills to work with and will see how the bat plays in the spring.

DUNCAN PICKETTSC / 1B / KENSINGTON , PE / 2021

Report: Pickets is a left-handed hitting catcher out of PEI and was a standout on the Atlantic this past fall. There is physical strength right now and he shows fundamentals behind the plate with arm strength and carry. Lots to like from the 21’ grad with upside to come with lots of at-bats to get under his belt.

DAVIS JACKC / 3B / BISHOP CARROLL, AB / 2021

Report: 6-foot, 190-pound left-handed hitting catcher, frame profiles well for the position and first thing you notice is the swing. Good rhythm and balance at the plate from Jack with good finish and extension as he works with a gap to gap approach, with a chance to create some real power moving forward. There is work to do with the defensive side but Jack is athletic enough and we are excited to see the development he takes this winter.

WILLIAM ANDERSONC / AN MYER SECONDARY, ON / 2021

Report: Defensively, Anderson was more in control of the body, and quicker transitioning the ball from glove to hand when we saw him in the early stages of 2020. The arm strength is improving but throws were much more consistent, showing carry and good accuracy. At the plate, Anderson looks to have improved his bath path and as he was able to elevate the ball. He is a solid all around player with the demeanor to handle a staff and game.

TRISTAN DESLAURIERSC / 1B / MAXWELL HEIGHTS, ON / 2021

Report: Deslauries is a left-handed hitting catcher with a bat first profile that works with looseness in the hands and showed plate discipline with more juice to his pull side. There are some small adjustments to clean up on the defensive side, but the actions are there and Deslauriers has a chance to stick and catch at the next level.
