8/16/20

LHH catcher with more of a hit first approach at the moment. There is present strength in the hands and forearms at 6-foot-1, 190-pounds and has a pretty solid frame throughout with ability to add more as he matures. It's a balanced base with a slow load that dips down and back with the hands, he generates bat speed and quickness to contact and that helps play in his power which we see more to the pull side. The body works together and the bat and swing project well with room to tap into some real power. In game, he had plate discipline but also attacked when there were pitches in the zone. Behind the dish, the transfers were clean and quick, the throws lacked carry but can see there is arm strength if he can stay in legs more. Receives the ball fine and shows the toughness needed to catch. The bat will be the carrying tool presently for Deslauriers and can really see him going to the next phase of his development with a strong winter.

6-foot, 180-pounds, DesLauriers is a catcher for the 16u Elite Oshawa club. At the plate, DesLauriers generates momentum with moving parts, including lots of barrel action before seating his hands below his shoulders. He comes towards the ball with a flat plane and an 83 mph exit velocity. He displays current strength and projectable power. Behind the plate, he is in the 2.25-2.30 range with 69 mph throwing velocity; he gets his feet angled early in direction to his target. On the mound, he starts and stops with a slight hesitation, and get’s on top of the ball from a high ¾ arm slot. He maxes out at 71 mph right now, and with added strength and more drive towards the plate, he will improve in that area. DesLauriers showed well on both sides, and we look forward to seeing him during the season.
