Freshman Free Showcase: Quick Hits
October 12, 2022
On Monday, October 10th the PBR Ontario staff returned to Blue Chip Sports in Kitchener to host the 2022 Freshman Free event. The event was the first of its kind in Canada for 2027 and 2028 prospects, tailored towards introducing Ontario's next wave of players to what Prep Baseball Report is.
It was a free opportunity for prospects from those classes to get in front of our staff as we begin to analyze those age groups for players to be selected on a potential Canadian "Rising Stars" team for an event in the U.S.
While the players in attendance where on the younger end and all still have miles left to develop before graduating, there were several players who are already beginning to separate themselves. Below, we take a look at five of those players from Monday's showcase.
Adrian Krupka RHP / 3B / Humberside Collegiate Institute, ON / 20262026 RHP/3B Adrian Krupka was a standout in every area of the event on Monday. 5-foot-11, 150-pound right-hander showed best on the mound with a fastball that sat 78-80mph, coupled with a tight, high-spin breaking ball. The Fieldhouse Pirates product has a comfortable look on the mound, along with a quick arm. Was a standout on the infield, as well, with his actions and arm strength (80mph). Continues to show he’s one of the top 2026 prospects in the province.

Robert Omidi SS / 3B / Loyola Catholic Secondary, ON / 20262026 Robert Omidi was one of the younger players at the Jr. Future Games Trials and immediately caught our staff’s eye. Omidi has already grown and matured over the year and it showed with his metrics in the event. Solid build already at 6-foot, 170-pounds and moves well on the infield with some athleticism and arm strength (79mph). There’s lots to like offensively with the size and left-handed swing. Put up a very mature round for his age with several swings posting upper 80s exit velos with a top of 91mph. Another 2026 from the Fieldhouse Pirates to keep tabs on.

Juan Cruz SS / 2B / st martins , ON / 2027There’s no underclassmen in the province who’s more fun to watch on the infield than 2027 SS Juan Cruz. Long, lanky frame at 5-foot-8, 115-pounds and glides around the infield with good feet, hands that play through the ball and the ability to throw from different slots and off-balance. Lots to like right now from Cruz with lots of development over the next 3-4 years.

Logan Cummins SS / RHP / Joan of Arc, ON / 20262026 SS/RHP Logan Cummins was someone who came in as an unknown and jumped out to our staff early on with his work on the infield. 5-foot-10, 140-pound athlete who moves well with looseness in all areas of his game. Clean, smooth actions on the infield where he was one of the best in the event and the arm translated to the mound, as well, sitting 78-81mph. Flashed upside and potential on both sides of the ball. Another fun 2026 to follow from Monday’s event.

Jonathan Rampersad RHP / 2B / St Francis Xavier Catholic School, ON / 20282028 RHP/SS Jonathan Rampersad was one of the youngest players in attendance and put together a strong overall day. His best part of the day came on the mound where he moves well down the mound with a clean, loose arm and fastball that sits 74-75mph. Had feel for the strike zone with all his pitches and flashed an impressive breaking ball for his age with late vertical break. Also put up a good round of BP from the right-side and showed well on the infield. One of just a few 2028s our staff has seen but Rampersad has been one of the best.
