Future Games Frenzy: Quick Hits I

PBR Ontario Scouting

On Wednesday, June 29th, our staff headed to Dan Lang Field to host the Future Games Frenzy which allowed our staff to get one final look at players from across the province before selecting the Future Games and Jr. Future Games rosters.

We got a look at 45+ players and we begin to break it all down below as PBR Ontario Scout, Ryan Sattz, provides notes and video on five players who caught his eye.

2024 OF/RHP Wilson Michel (Oshawa Legionaires) - a 5 foot-10 155 pound OF/RHP for the Oshawa Legionaires had a quality day at the Future Game Frenzy. In the outfield the arm was loose with some carry behind it, had good actions approaching the ball with good momentum towards the ball. At the plate Michel had one of the more impressive rounds. The swing was loaded with some loud barrels to the pull side. Had good extension on his swing, didn't get cheated and showed his power potential on a rainy day. On the mound Michel worked down hill with good drive off the back leg. Everything was compact with an easy delivery out of the hand. Interesting name out of the 2024 class that continues to make strides.

2024 RHP Trevor Mulder (Windsor Selects) - Mulder, a 6-foot-2 175-pound RHP for the Windsor Selects looked comfortable on the mound. The delivery was smooth with good use of his whole body, hides the ball well until release, lived mostly at the knees with a lot of strikeouts or groundouts. Mulder worked with a solid fastball that topped 83mph on the day with some late run on it. The change up stood out with good arm side movement on it that was tough for hitters to hit all day. Will be a name to look out for as he continues to fill the body out.

2025 INF Philip Cheong (Toronto Mets) - Cheong, a 5-foot-9 160-pound middle infielder for the Toronto Mets showed off all his tools on the day. Early on speed stood out for Cheong running the top 60 yard time at 6.63. In the field the footwork is clean with good range to his right and left, made some tough plays look easy up the middle, arm has some life on it with a short quick release. Had one of the top infield velo at 81mph. At the plate the swing is very twitchy with an aggressive lower half living mostly pull side, showed some pop catching the ball out front. Cheong has filled out over the offseason and will be an interesting name to keep an eye on.

2024 C Preston Vieira (Oshawa Legionaires) - Vieira, a 5-foot-9 155-pound catcher for the Oshawa Legionaires showed off his tools throughout the day coming off an impressive week at the New York State Games. Behind the plate the actions were clean, footwork stood out with a top pop time of 2.09, arm action was short and quick with good accuracy on his throws. At the plate Vieira continued his impressive week with barrels to the gaps, stayed in his legs well with a flat bat through the zone. Has taken major strides in his game on both sides of the field as he has turned a lot of heads.

2025 SS/3B Tommy Cullen - Cullen, a 5-foot-8 140-pound SS/3B of the Ontario Blue Jays had a quality overall day. In the infield the hands stood out with a quick transfer out of the glove, stayed in his legs well, arm had some pick up on it with a quick release out of the hand. Showed good arm strength across the diamond that can keep him on the left side of the infield. At the plate the swing was loaded and twitchy, showed good balance on extension, lived mostly gap to gap on the day. There is a lot to like as Cullen continues to improve on both sides of the field.
