Ontario Insider: Super 60 Recap - Luke Van Rycheghem

By Chris Kemlo and PBR Staff
Ontario Scouting Director

With more than 120 scouts in attendance, the 14th Annual Super 60 Pro Showcase delivered many highlights by prospects from 19 different states on Sunday, Feb. 7 at The Max in McCook, IL. Throughout the coming weeks we will produce content highlighting the top performers, the biggest risers and much more from the event, but today we take a quick look at the best statistical performances, which includes two event records.

Although statistics only paint a partial picture of how well a player performed, these numbers are pretty telling for early February:

Ontario Insider: Super 60 Recap - Luke Van Rycheghem

Luke Van RycheghemPlayer: Luke Van Rycheghem
Position:
C
Class: 2016
State Rank: 8th in 2016 class
High School: Ursuline College Chatham
College Commitment: Stetson
Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 220-pounds
Bats/Throws: L/R

Super 60 Evaluation: Came in with physicality at 6-foot-3, 220-pounds. Strong, thick lower half, strength in arms and wrists. Will be able to lean out and put on more muscle as he matures and becomes older. Hit from an upright position, swung it during his batting practice rounds, did not get cheated, throws the barrel out with power to his pull side. Shows natural lift to his swing and has power potential from the left side. Behind the plate Van Rycheghem best pop time was a 1.97, was unable to get the ball in the air, looked as if he was trying to rush and be too quick. When he was controlled everything was able to be on time and online.

Anonymous scout quote on Van Rycheghem: I liked his aggressiveness at the plate. Swung with power and the strength is there

Draft Outlook: With Van Rycheghem committed to Stetson, it will most likely take a big spring to steer him away from going to school. If he turns it on this March and carries it into May and early June, Van Rycheghem will give scouts something to think about come the 2016 draft.

PBR Ontario: What are your thoughts on the Super 60?
Van Rycheghem: The Super 60 was an all around amazing experience for me, lots of exposure and an amazing all around environment.

PBR Ontario: Thoughts on the amount of scouts in attendance?
Van Rycheghem: “It was exciting to see how many scouts were in attendance at the Super 60. It made me a little nervous at first, but once I got them out of my head I was able to focus on what I came there to do.”

PBR Ontario: Thoughts on this amount of talent in one place at one time?
Van Rycheghem: It was eye opening for me to see all the talent at the Super 60. It was the best players from their respective regions and was really fun to watch and play with them.
