Ontario Insider: Uncommitted Underclass Spotlight - Braden Taylor, RHP/SS
Name: Braden Taylor
Position: RHP/SS
Class: 2018
High School: Leaside High School
Club Team: Etobicoke Rangers
Height/Weight: 5-foot-10, 160-pounds
Ranked: TBA
Scouting Report: The 5-foot-10, 160-pound right-hander works strictly out of the stretch with a quick arm, topping out at 79 mph late in the fall (9/19/2015). Working out of a 3/4 arm slot, he has a repeatable delivery with a short stride, and when he begins to separate his front side and gain a little more ground with his stride, he'll increase his velocity. He also owns a plus Curveball that has sharp, late break at 63-65 mph that that could eventually turn into a slider given his quick arm action. Changeup has some movement, but is only effective when he keeps it down in the zone. At shortstop he moves well laterally, gathers, and has an advanced, clean approach to the ball. Makes the tough plays look easy and has no trouble getting something on the ball while throwing on the run. At the plate he hits from an upright position with a slight bend, minor leg kick with short stride. Tends to cast his hands and get under the ball, but has the ability to sit back on the ball and take it the other way. Taylor is also the starting linebacker for his high school football team and will continue to project as one of the better arms in a stacked 2018 class.
