PSA Scout Day: Quick Hits II

Cam Black-Araujo
Lead Scout, PBR Canada

PBR Canada headed East on Sunday to host the annual Premier Sports Academy Scout Day at their facility in Paradise, Newfoundland. It was a fantastic turnout once again with 50+ players in the program as they took part in their final high-level workout of the year.

We saw a couple high-profile East Coast prospects take the mound, along with a ton of underclass standouts from the 2025 - 2026 classes. With a ton of talent on hand, we continue to break it all down below with our second set of quick hits from the event, taking a look at five more standout players.

Ben Kent RHP / SS / St. Peter's, NL / 2027

2027 RHP/SS Ben Kent was one of the most impressive 2027/2028s in attendance. Long levers and skinny frame right now at 5-foot-10, 130-pounds and there’s lots to like in the left-handed swing. Worked gap-to-gap with the wood bat and it’s an intriguing profile at the plate as he adds strength. Showed arm strength across the diamond at 75mph and was up to 70mph on the mound. Flashed more upside on the positional side and will be a young Newfoundlander who you should hear more from in the coming years.

Phillip Ledgister C / OF / Holy Spirit , NL / 2024

2024 C/OF Phillip Ledgister had one of the more mature showings on Sunday with his combination of size and strength at 6-foot-, 190-pounds. Did his best work at the dish and posted some loud swings while working to the pullside. Balanced left-handed swing with a strong lower half that he utilizes well. Defensively he looks most comfortable at the dish with a quick transfer and throws up to 68mph. Also worked up to 75mph from the outfield.

Sean Duffy RHP / 2B / O'Donel , NL / 2025

2025 RHP/2B Sean Duffy impressed on the mound with one of the better arms and a desirable frame at 6-foot-3, 180-pounds. Uses his size to work downhill with an open landing and tough low ¾ arm slot. Sat 77-80 T81 with the fastball and works with a curveball and good changeup. The offspeed stuff needs to develop before Duffy makes the next big jump but there’s lots to like and work with on the mound.

Kyle Dwyer C / 2B / Juniper Ridge Int. , NL / 2027

2027 C/2B Kyle Dwyer was one of the most impressive 2027/2028s on the infield with clean, smooth actions. Glides on the infield with good footwork, accurate throws and some swagger. Still small and weak of course, but it’s evident the infield comes naturally to the young middle infielder who also took reps behind the dish.

Graham Noseworthy C / SS / Mount Pearl senior High, NL / 2025

2025 C/SS Graham Noseworhy impressed at multiple positions, as well as at the dish. One of the quickest transfers we saw behind the plate with good arm strength at 75mph. Quick feet on the infield with one of the better arms at 79mph and the ability to throw from multiple slots and on the run. Left-handed hitter with the ability to work the way and consistently found the barrel throughout the round. Present tools and overall game stood out on Sunday.
