Ontario Senior Scout Blog

Here with PBR Canada, we are looking to bring an emphasis on the available uncommitted talent we have in the country, and more so Ontario.

With the stoppage the sport world has seen and senior season’s up in the air, we will be at the front of leading the charge and make sure our guys have a fighting chance.

Cameron Faber 1B / RHP / Southwood , ON / 2020

Report: An imposing presence at 6-foot-4, 225-pounds. The biggest tool for Faber is the bat as the first-baseman displays strength and bat speed, which had an exit velo of 87 mph this past February with a slightly uphill path and rhythm and balance through his swing, which is nice to see as a more power oriented approach. It’s a big right-handed bat to buy into and you are always guaranteed to see Faber play with energy and passion.

Andrew Bench RHP / 3B / E.L Crossley, ON / 2020

Report: Bench stands out right away with his 6-foot-3, 225-pound frame. We’ve seen Bench in the 82-84 range with his fastball and the ability to repeat will be key for the right-hander. It is a three-pitch mix with a curveball in the 67-69 range and changeup at 68-70. The arm works and we can see Bench making more gains in 2020.

Jack Falcone OF / 3B / Upper Canada College, ON / 2020

Report: Falcone, a left-handed hitter who can give you time defensively all over the diamond as he has played outfield, infield, and seen time behind the dish. With the versatility there, it allows the left-handed swing of Falcone to play up. He has rhythm and timing with some looseness to his swing, he gets the barrel extended and still has room for more strength gains. He’s one of the top uncommitted bats in the class.

Jacob Forgues RHP / C / Woodroffe , ON / 2020

Report: Forgues was a very intriguing arm at the Ottawa scout day last year as the right-hander worked from a ¾ slot with a loose and whippy arm. The fastball displayed some sinking action in the 81-83 range while he worked in a 11/5 shaped curveball with some late bite. Projectable body, arm is clean, Forgues has a chance to play up as he matures physically.

Jake Merante C / SS / Robert f hall, ON / 2020

Report: Merante, 5-foot-9, 180-pounds, catcher in the 2020 class. 7.08 60-yard dash runner. Compact, strong swing. Line-drive swing with comfort going both ways. Hard sweet-spot contact up to 84 mph off the tee. Was 2.09-2.18 behind the plate, 73 mph across. Gets his feet set quickly, sound mechanically with a catcher’s frame.
