Canada Spring Training Coverage - Florida
The Canadian Junior National Team arrived in St.Petersburg on Wednesday and took to the field for a workout on Thursday in advance of games beginning Friday. With 16 players represented from Ontario, with top MLB prospects in Noah Naylor, Denzel Clarke, and Eric Cerantola among others on the trip, it is sure to be a heavily scouted week for professional scouts in the area and out of town.
Thursday was a light day, working off the rust from travel as they went through infield and outfield work, in and out, then capped the day off with batting practice. It was a good look for scouts to see the changes in players bodies as this is the first look for many guys since late 2017 and a precursor to games coming up versus minor league players from five different affiliates on the trip.
Game 1 is Friday vs Detroit Tigers and uncommitted 2018 Griffin Hassall gets the start, followed by Jaden Griffin from Alberta, Victor Bergeron from Quebec and Connor Sparks from Saskatchewan.
Below are some quick hits from Thursday’s workout on a few players from OntarioFor information on any teams or players, please contact Chris Kemlo - [email protected] or George Halim - [email protected]

Denzel Clarke OF / Everest Academy, ON / 2018Report: Looks noticeably stronger, starting to fill out his 6-foot-4 frame and the sound was different off the bat as he showed power to right-centre during his BP rounds. The arm had more life and carry than it did at the Super 60 in Chicago and the Cal State Northridge commit will get plenty of opportunity to show off his tool set this week. |
